*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (6 Viewers)

no idea if this game is live or not but cousins looks really good. i love watching these summer league games for some reason.
Cousins hit a big jump hook with 2.8 seconds left to put Sac on top by 1... and they got the win.I don't know how much this summer league action really means, but he is really playing well so far.
His post game looks really polished. He's definitely going to have foul issues and some trouble on defense, but I've been very impressed.
Agreed. Cousins has looked like a man against boys in the two games I've watched him play. I know his hands and overall skill level for someone his size was hyped, but I didn't think he was this good. Guy sees the floor and understands the game far better than I expected.FatMax must be doing cartwheels right now after the past two drafts. Conversely, Britney and TWolves nation are standing on a chair in the shower with a rope tied to the ceiling. Johnson over Cousins, a year after Flynn over Curry? "Stings the nostrils..."

The only teams I can think of right now that could realistically try to play these guys with their regular defensive set and expect not to get completely mauled would be the Celtics and Lakers. They have the personnel to make life difficult man up and would likely dominate the boards on the Heat.
Ray Allen cant really cover Wade, Paul Pierce cant really cover Lebron. Garnett with his gimpy knee can still probably do a decent job on Bosh. Perkins is out until the All Star break, but is sort of irrelevant considering the Heat dont really have a center anyhow.Artest can cover Lebron about as well as anyone, but he certainly isn't shuttinghim down. Kobe probably still wouldnt cover Wade because we all know Kobe nearly always takes the worst of the guards (which is not a knock on him, it's just what they tend to do), so that leaves Brown/Fisher covering Wade which is a disaster. It is one thing to have them chasing Ray Allen around 4000 screens. It is quite another manning up on Wade. Gasol has played well against Bosh in the past.I dont know. Even when the Celtics were the best defensive team in the league in 2008, their help defense was superb. When you are cheating off Kobe and leaving Farmar/Brown/Fisher somewhat open, or doubling down on Howard to leave Carter open, it is a hell of a lot different than leaving either Lebron or Wade to help.
We're a long way away from Lakers vs. Heat. If it gets there, we'll know a lot more than we do now. On paper, right now, IF the Lakers have a healthy, active Bynum, then I like the Lakers' chances in a very tough 7 game series. If Bynum is hurt again as he has been in the last 3 years, then I like the Heat, but it still will be very difficult. The Heat will have trouble with Boston and Orlando in the playoffs simply because they are are seasoned veteran playoff teams who have been together a while now and know how to win together. But in the end, I think Miami's got too much talent and will prevail.

I figure Rondo takes wade outright or he helps a ton off Chalmers. Pierce will do as well as you can do vs. LeBron and the Celtics will own the interior on defense - whether it's Garnett on Bosh outright or just helping out. The all star break doesn't mean anything to the Celtics, neither does home court. The only thing that matters is winning enough to get to the playoffs and being healthy for May and June, with April being a nice to have. Lewis, Turkoglu, Carter, Richardson, Reddick, etc. are all scarier on open perimeter shots than LeBron or Wade. Besides that I doubt the help is going to come off LeBron/Wade anyway. If the Celtics see the Heat in the playoffs and the Celtics have all their horses at 90% or better, I'd favor the Celtics in that series. The only question for me at that point is how much of an affect losing their defensive coach will be. But these guys are vets and have been in the system for 3 years now, so I don't think it'll have a big impact. As for the Lakers, Artest will do his thing against LeBron and Kobe will see plenty of time on Wade, and again the Lakers should own the interior on defense.

I still think the Wolves had to take Wes. MUCH needed. But you're right, it could end up stinging quite a bit.

I feel like I'm now seeing his plan come together. It might end up being a really crappy plan, but there's definitely a plan.

Just heard the interview... Passes like Vlade Divac

Career arc of Chris Webber

Took 2 days to learn the offense when most took 2 months

7'1'' and moves like a forward

DARKO!!!!!!!!!!!

Webber saying "Good Luck" at the end was priceless.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around how much Cousins plays this year. Originally I thought it'd be a pretty even split with he and Dalembert, but it is starting to look like Cousins might see a good chunk of minutes right out of the gate. I don't really see these two playing much together, particularly with Landry and Jason Thompson at PF already... It will be interesting to see how the minutes shake out for Cousins early this season.

Foul trouble will keep his mins down for at least half of the season, imo. 20-25 a game?

"Although I was the highest bidder, Chris Cohan decided to sell to someone else," Ellison said. "In my experience this is a bit unusual. Nonetheless, I wish the Warriors and their fans nothing but success under their new ownership."

Sal Galatioto, the president of Galatioto Sports Partners, which advised Cohan on the sale, said there was a handshake agreement with Lacob and Guber agreed to about two weeks ago. The team had four offers of at least $400 million at the time of the deadline.

While the two sides worked out the details, Ellison came back with what Galatioto described as a "marginally higher" offer just hours before the signing. "He was way past the deadline," Galatioto said. "There was no way I was going to recommend that bid to Chris. ... Once the shot clock expires, are you allowed to get back on the court and have it count? I don't think so."

So you buy the Warriors for 119 million, run the franchise into the ground, make the playoffs once in 15 years, and then you sell if for 450 million. Awesome.

Warriors fans have to be some of the best in all of sports, the team is pretty consistently in the top 10 in attendance. Misery enjoys company...

Agreed - the atmosphere they had during that playoff run was awesome. Too bad they're rarely good.

ESPN radio (Atlanta) is reporting the Cavs are close to sending Shaq to the Hawks for Marvin Williams.
Is Atlanta high?
They did re-up Joe Johnson for the max, so there is a lot of supporting information for "yes"
Hmm, good point.I sort of get wanting Shaq to combat Dwight for 15 minutes a game. Fine. And I get that Marvin Williams has been quite the bust...but my god, why trade the one guy with potential upside for the one guy with zero?

Happy about JJ coming back to the Magic. He may (very well may) get more run than Vince this year.
He played pretty good last yr in the playoffs. I thought it was a no brainer matching the offer.
Only problem is it will be a huge cap hit next year. Basically 14M for a 7M contract (first year). I expect them to try and move Brandon Bass, even though more size may be better matching up against the Heat.As an aside, if JJ comes out and says tomorrow "I've decided to take my talents back to Disney World" I will immediately buy one of his jerseys.

Penny Hardaway said on Charles Oakley's internet radio show Thursday that he wants to return to the NBA and play for the, wait for it...Heat.Apparently, Penny has been tearing up rec leagues in Miami and is serious about playing again, despite being 39 years old on Sunday. And maybe the Heat will bite if Penny agrees to play for his rec-league salary.Source: Darren Rovell on Twitter
As humorous as the news is, I can't believe he's now 39. Seems like just yesterday he and Lil Pen were on the TV.

#Cavs & Hawks have talked but there's no sign-and-trade w/Shaq coming. Doesn't sound like either party is very interested now.
