*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (8 Viewers)

Oh my goodness the Kings are bad. I mean, I knew they were bad, but they look absolutely awful. The Defending World Champion Dallas Mavericks are absolutely throttling them. It's a little bit scary how bad they are. Wow.
Ugh. Hard to stomach how bad they are playing most nights.

When the LA teams play each other, does the Laker fan base still out number the Clippers in the arena?
Seems to be 50/50 during a Clipper home game. Only difference I see is more Clipper fans during Laker home games due to Griffin. Still 90/10 during Laker home game though.

Hasn't been the toughest of competition they've beaten, but the Mavs seem to be starting to develop a nice chemistry. Still wanting to see Lamar Odom mesh well with the team. The Kings are just awful, but the Mavs defense has to start getting some credit. Since the first three games, they have really ramped things up.

Fire Dantoni, clap clap, clap clap clap
Well they are at it they might as well fire all the management and the owner. There isn't a coach in nba history that would be taking a team without a legit guard and having that team excel. The Knicks did a very good job freeing cap space and accumulating assets but I'm not sure it got them anywhere near where they were hoping they'd be.

Clippers best team on the west coast?
It helps that they've played just about every game with rest. The Clippers have only played 9 games so far, I think there are some teams that have played 15 games and I don't think anybody else had played fewer than 11.
My bias aside, the Clippers did look a lot fresher last night, especially in the first half. Pau's jumpers were short all night, and the Lakers only seemed to match the Clippers energy in the 3rd quarter. It was the Lakers 4th game in 5 nights. No doubt the Clips are improved - it turns my stomach watching CP3, he's so damn good and should be a Laker - but I'd give it more than 9 games before declaring them the best on the WC.

And on top of playing only 9 games, 6 of those have been at home.

Last year the Knicks went 2-8 in their first 10 games and are now 6-6 hardly time to start panicking. This roster is flawed and I think all Knicks fans knew this going into the season. Having a starting backcourt of Fields and Shump is not going to win you many games. Assuming Davis can come back soon (reports indicate he is making good progres) and the defense keeps up (was ranked #7 overall prior to OKC game) this team has the ability to win a playoff series. But lets not kid ourselves even with the great Phil Jackson at the helm this team is not real championship contender.

Odom has just been awful to my eyes. It's ugly. I think he needs to be handling the ball more when in the game - a Terry/Odom/Marion/Dirk/C lineup where Odom and Terry are the ball handlers is nice if Marion could stick with a SG...otherwise Marion becomes Carter in that lineup, also nice.

Davis is better than what they have, but hes had three bad years in a row, hes going to be 33 by the end of the season. Certainly he'll be better than the trash they have at PG now, but its not the Baron Davis of five years ago like Knicks fans seem to think. And it looks like Fields has been benched for Bibby... that's how far Fields has fallen since the Melo trade last year. At one point it seemed that the Knicks were higher on his prospects than either Chandler or Gallo's and now he is benched for Mike ####### Bibby. I feel kind of bad for Knicks fans because there was so much promise for you guys prior to the Melo trade and the fans and city were excited for the first time in a decade. It didn't take long for Dolan and his minions to completely #### up the entire situation. In the process of creating the team they have, they have dumped every asset they have outside of their three good players, two of whom have pretty much untradable contracts. The entire future of this franchise rides on Baron Davis, that's a scary thought.

Meh, you have to have an elite superstar to win a title. The hard part is getting a Melo; it's far easier to find the supporting pieces.

Donnie Walsh did an outstanding job considering what he inherited, until Dolan stepped in and gave in to Denver's outrageous demands in Melo trade. I don't believe Chandler's contract is untradeable, he got what the market bears for a FA Center who defends and rebounds and is a team leader. Picking up Billups option was the biggest mistake the Front office did.

Odom was doing a little bit of whining last week about not knowing his role in the system. Randy Galloway was cracking me up talking about how Odom is missing LA. I actually think there's a lot of truth to that. He doesn't really want to be here, but the Lakers called his bluff on wanting to be traded. Hopefully, he'll start to feel more comfortable around the team as the season rolls along. They'll need him in the playoffs.

In other news, based on income tax laws, getting rid of Haywood's contract through amnesty, and not picking up team options, I think Dallas has enough to offer both Dwight and Deron Williams around 17 million to come be with Dirk, Marion, and whatever rookies they get.

If Dwight and Deron want to play together...joining Dirk with a ole player like Marion is a pretty nice place to do it - especially with no income tax to narrow the effective salary gap and this being Deron's hometown and all.

Unless the Magic trade Dwight to the Mavs (unbelievably unlikely) wouldn't he have to take like a 30 million dollar salary hit to go there?Btw, Florida has no state income tax, so he isn't saving money via that route.

As opposed to signing in LA or Jersey he would be. Dude, the Magic are ####ed if he doesn't want to be there. They'll do a sign and trade to wherever Dwight wants, just like LeBron and Bosh. Like all superstars who leave as actual FAs.

Not saying they won't be ####ed if he leaves. Where did I say that otherwise? :confused:My point is if he'a still banging that drum come March, he's likely going to LA or Jersey as they at least have something reasonable to offer back. Dallas has nothing. From my understanding, he would be able to sign with that team for the full amount of money.

Dirk and Marion make 29.5 million combined. If the cap stays where it is at 58 million, and adding in cap holds for everyone else, they have no chance to add another 34 million in salary.

Sign and trades? Maybe my limited understanding of the salary cap is more limited than I thought...

My understanding is the Dwight-Deron duo signing requires the Mavs to be able to shed Marion. I'm not sure how reasonable that is considering his age and salary next year.

It would be a pretty slim market for him. Maybe if they package him with Beaubois they could find a taker.

Marion has played well this year. Stein reported this weekend that the Dwight/Deron package was a possibility b/c there will be a market for Marion and the Mavs will be able to shed his salary.

I wish I could say the Lakers and Mavs are playing great defense. Unfortunately, that's not the case. This 3rd quarter has been ugly to watch.
:goodposting: The Lakers have been pretty awful on offense all year. I'm not sure what this new offense is, but it's not working so far. Kobe operates solo. Gasol's become a jump shooter with weak hands; it's seems like someone's always knocking the ball away. Bynum should be the central piece in the offense, but sometimes he's simply not there. And the less said about Fisher and World Peace on offense, the better. Unless this changes I can't see the Lakers going anywhere this year. Lakers 3 of 19 shooting in the quarter!!!

Wow, the Lakers scored 7 points in the 3rd quarter. They almost tied their lowest scoring quarter ever if Bynum hadn't made the free throw. Unreal...

Mike Brown is a terrible coach. Worked with a facilitator superstar like LBJ, but not with an aging Kobe.

This is a super ugly game. Not much else to say. Ugly. Dirk needs the damn ball some here.

Refs lettin' em play too. McRoberts is fouling the hell out of Nowitzki and Vince Carter is all over Kobe with his hands. Neither seems to be able to get a call.

Good grief that was an ugly game. Both teams sucked pretty bad. Just terrible. Should be 2 L's and no W's, the Mavs sure as hell didn't deserve to win it.

Ryan Anderson! :goodposting:
I didn't see the game, but checked out the box score... Orlando took 35 three point attempts today and hit 48%. Gotta love those numbers. Although Dwight had a down game and looks like he fouled out. Must have been in foul trouble early.Anderson's stats are looking nice, but last time I saw him play (against the Bulls) he did not impress me. Looks like he will be in the running for the most improved award.

But, But, But John Hollinger and all the naysayers said Kobe was terrible in the clutch because all he does is take horrible shots.

Once again.......
He made some key shots last night, but I was not happy with him. Twice in the last two minutes of play, with the Lakers having a lead and needing only a basket to make things extremely difficult for Dallas, Kobe attempted long distance shots early in the clock, both of which clanked, and Dallas got the ball back and eventually tied it up. Kobe also had the ball in his hands the entire time during those sequences; there was no running a play to the big men, no working the offense, no nothing. Just Kobe against 5 defenders and everyone else standing there. Perhaps you think that's going to win us something, but I don't. The Lakers new offense, whatever it is, is not working. They've got to feed Bynum and Gasol. Kobe needs to be the 3rd option, not the first one. If they can't figure this out, they're not going anywhere.

Right now, Bynum is gassed at the end of games and not fighting for position. Gasol, be it because of his shoulder, him being tired, or just not being aggressive anymore, is staying on the perimeter. Kobe knows when to take over and when to get the guys involved. Stop listening to the media, Kobe's in the huddle and sees if they really want the ball at the end of the game. Kobe has been criticized for 16 years for not getting other involved but hardly praised when he does. The media wants to make it like Kobe decides when wants to go on a scoring binge. Sometimes he has to go into exteme, 30 shots a night mode for us to win, because the team is in a rut, injuries, or some other reason. It's not like Pau and Drew are posting up right under the basket and Kobe is ignoring them and shooting a 35 footer. Kobe gave Pau a couple of dirty looks yesterday for what seemed to be a lack of aggression and being in the wrong spots.Kobe's scoring barrage is needed for us to win games right now. Bynum's quick start looks like its got him gassed, and Gasol's shoulder is reportedly bothering him more than it seems. You see what happens when Kobe doesn't score, 73 points.

He was horrible in the Chicago game, but has carried the Magic in quite a few other games this year (yesterday included) - we'll see how good he is as the schedule gets harder coming up.

Ouch! Knicks a losing team with Melo

It’s not complicated.

Since the celebrated Carmelo Anthony trade 11 months ago, the New York Knicks have won 20 regular-season games and lost 21.

That doesn’t sound so great, but it gets worse:

The Knicks also lost four straight in the playoffs, winning none.

The Knicks didn’t get Chris Paul. Many fans and observers believed getting Melo put the Knicks closer to obtaining CP3, who is known to have wanted to play in New York. (Remember the famous wedding toast.) But by maxing out Melo, the Knicks made that nearly impossible. Now CP3 is a Clipper until 2013 and probably beyond.

The Nuggets are winning: They’re 26-12 since shipping out Melo, much better than the 32-25 record they posted with him last season.

The Knicks are 16th in Marc Stein’s Power Rankings, and ranked 20th in the NBA according to John Hollinger; the Nuggets are 8th for Stein, 11th for Hollinger.

The Knicks have a losing record and negative scoring margin this season despite having played the third-easiest schedule in the league.

The Knicks are ranked 22nd in offensive efficiency, even though Melo and Tyson Chandler are posting easily the highest PERs of their respective careers.

The Knicks would be seeded No. 8 in the East if the playoffs started today, and would play the top-seeded Bulls.

The Knicks don’t own their first-round draft pick in 2012 or 2014, and might have to swap 2016 first-round picks with Denver.

Danilo Gallinari, a rising young star the Knicks traded away along with five other players and three draft picks to get Melo, was a local favorite, and he criticized the trade last week, telling the New York Daily News, “I thought we were having a really good season [last year]. … People were having fun coming to see the games. … We had a positive record, the excitement was there.”

Maybe it gets better from here. Maybe they solves the chemistry issues. Maybe Baron Davis is the savior.

But facts are facts: The Carmelo Anthony Knicks aren’t very good.

Ramon Sessions would be perfect for the Lakers. What would it take to get him? Are the Cavs looking for picks, cap relief, or players?

I love that the Nuggets are playing well and the Knicks are so awful. At least Melo gets to play in that big market. Edit: Remember those Knicks fans calling Hollinger a hater before the year? Lol.

I believe there are quite a few of us who deserves pats on the back. Melo is NOT a superstar. He's a Joe Johnson/Paul Pierce type All*Star. Not even in the same stratosphere as LBJ and Wade.
