Kobe Bryant evidently is confident the Los Angeles Lakers will make the playoffs -- and be a factor when they get there.Bryant said in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he is certain the struggling Lakers will make the playoffs. The 15-time All-Star also claimed he has "no fear" of any potential postseason opponent in the competitive Western Conference."It's not a question of if we make the playoffs. We will," Bryant told Sports Illustrated. "And when we get there, I have no fear of anyone -- Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Denver ... whoever. I have zero nervousness about that."
I completely understand why he's the most hated man in the NBA over the last 17 years. But I hope those of you who hate him understand that it's stuff like this that make him so loved by those of us in Purple and Gold.
Actually, I look at it as more talk in a season filled with way too much of it and not enough wins. As a Laker fan, I don't care about what Kobe says as much as what they do on the court. It doesn't make me appreciate him more. Kobe says they're going to make the playoffs? Not surprising. I would be shocked if he said anything to the contrary. Unfortunately, that doesn't add another win to the Lakers' record. Perhaps you look at statements like that as indicators of Kobe's will and desire, which are two key components to his outstanding career and two of Kobe's qualities that any Laker fan has come to respect and appreciate over the years. If so, then I agree with your statement a bit. But as far as him saying things like that, it just seems like more hot air from a team that has provided way too much of it so far this year and probably pisses me off as a Laker fan more than anything else.
