Ford reports that the Charlotte Hornets offered Gerald Henderson and the 24th overall pick in Thursday's Draft for Afflalo.
The report that Orlando declined an Afflalo offer which would have netted them a better player and a better Draft pick than what they ultimately received for their leading scorer will certainly rankle some Magic fans. But if anything, this news underscores what Orlando Pinstriped Post wrote earlier regarding what the Magic value: flexibility.
Magic must be ready to take on somebody's deal.
I like Hendo, but he doesn't have much trade value. He's a SG that's a poor 3-pt shooter and doesn't really create anything. He tries on defense, and can get on a roll with his mid-range jumper from time to time. He's the kind of guy you love as a rotation guy for a couple mill/year, but a couple more years at $6 mill. make him essentially worthless in a trade.
Fournier's far more valuable.
In the draft, most teams would be really excited to take 6'6" SG with some athleticism that they absolutely knew he was capable of hitting 38% of his 3's in the NBA.
Valuing a 21 YO Fournier like a mid-teens pick doesn't seem like a stretch.
