Don't sleep on Oregon getting a 1 seed. They are 3 in RPI, 2nd hardest schedule, pac 12 champs in a very good conference this year. If this was Arizona or UCLA's resume the pundits would have them as a 1 seed.
If Michigan State, North Carolina, and West Virginia all lose tomorrow Oregon has a decent shot at a 1-seed. If the Ducks win tomorrow, too.Don't sleep on Oregon getting a 1 seed. I had them a 3 but think for sure move to 2 after today.Don't sleep on Oregon getting a 1 seed. They are 3 in RPI, 2nd hardest schedule, pac 12 champs in a very good conference this year. If this was Arizona or UCLA's resume the pundits would have them as a 1 seed.
If West Virginia and Oregon both win tomorrow Oregon should be seeded over West Virginia. Villanova could lose tomorrow as well. Should be another fun day tomorrow. If Michigan State, North Carolina, and West Virginia all lose tomorrow Oregon has a decent shot at a 1-seed. If the Ducks win tomorrow, too.
Disagree. West Virginia would have neutral wins over Kansas, Oklahoma and SD State, road wins at Iowa State, Baylor, and Texas Tech, a nice list of good home wins, and no bad losses. If West Virginia and Oregon both win tomorrow Oregon should be seeded over West Virginia.
There's still the final four. It is 1988 again, right?Wow. Really wanted KU v OU III, but it will be good NCAA Tournament prep to play against an unconventional team like West Virginia on short rest.
Stony Brook wins the America East.Stony Brook had an RPI of 45 coming into tonight's game, but struggled and lost to Vermont, which dropped them to 63, according to rpi forecast. Their two best wins, from an RPI standpoint, I suppose are a little suspect: Princeton (39) and Hofstra (58). They dominated their conference, though it is poor.
Still, they look like an intriguing upset pick, as they are led by 3 seniors and a junior, which includes their starting guards. They have decent size and, more importantly, their big guys look very good on offense around the basket. They are above average from 3, so overall on offense they seem good enough, though kenpom has them at 121. Kenpom has them at 25 on defense (though again perhaps inflated by the poor conference). FT% is not great, so possibly an achilles' heel.
Uncle Anthony is back in the stands today. He has a photo of Wayne's dunk from last night on him in an elaborate frame.Good Posting Judge said:Wayne Selden's uncle knows how to party. You just know.
It would be a nice bookend for Perry Ellis's college career.Long Ball Larry said:There's still the final four. It is 1988 again, right?
Perfect! It would be a nice bookend for Perry Ellis's college career.
All the contact gets frustrating, but it is so fun watching all five guys on the same page defensively going at it so aggressively. On most nights I'd be rooting for them.Press Virginia has to be one of the most fun teams in the country to watch. Love the hustle.
I think I posted this here already, but during his Senior Day speech last weekend, Ellis joked about playing with Wilt and Manning. When Clyde Lovellette passed away a couple days ago, I'm sure it was tempting for folks to ask Ellis what it was like playing with him.Seriously was just thinking, wow this guy looks even older.
The refs were just letting them play (rugby)Josh Hart just got mauled on that follow-up.
You think San Diego St has an at-large chance?Any fans of bubble teams better be rooting hard for SD state.
RPI coming into the game was 31 or 32, Lunardi had them as an 11 seed and they have name recognition. So yes, I would definitely say they have a chance. Much more than Fresno, obviously. You think San Diego St has an at-large chance?
Hard to believe this is the same team that had a brutal 2-3 stretch in mid-January.#1 overall seed locked up.![]()
BracketMatrix had SDSU as an 11-seed this morning, but only one at-large (Michigan) behind them.RPI coming into the game was 31 or 32, Lunardi had them as an 11 seed and they have name recognition. So yes, I would definitely say they have a chance. Much more than Fresno, obviously.
I personally like Virginia and MSU to win it all, but that's my bias. Kansas is probably the team that should win it.Hard to believe this is the same team that had a brutal 2-3 stretch in mid-January.
There was a schism between Ellis/Selden/Mason/Graham and the rest of the roster. Self did a great job getting that fixed.
Would have liked to see a bit more out of Diallo or Bragg, but apparently Lucas kept outplaying them in practice and earned his spot on the floor.
We've joked a lot about Ellis's age, but I doubt we will see a more experienced 7-man rotation in the Tournament: Lucas and Traylor are fifth-year seniors, Selden, Mason, and Greene are juniors who have been contributing since they were freshmen, Graham is a sophomore who played a lot last year, and of course Ellis was a Phog Allen recruit.
Why in the hell did Akron foul on purpose with :29 leftMAC CG tied with 96 seconds left
Yeah, it was dumb. Why in the hell did Akron foul on purpose with :29 left11 on shot clock)? All that did was reset the shot clock and let Buffalo dribble the clock out and well beat them.
MSU beat Kansas on a neutral court and is a tough matchup. I like KU's balance and shooting, but they don't have an individual player as good as Denzel Valentine and teams that hit the glass like MSU will give them trouble. WVU is usually an excellent offensive rebounding team that they just killed KU on the glass when they beat the Jayhawks in Morgantown.I personally like Virginia and MSU to win it all, but that's my bias. I'd love another shot at Virginia. We seem to be their Kryptonite in the NCAA tourney...5-0 all-time against them.MSU beat Kansas on a neutral court and is a tough matchup. UVA is #1 overall in KenPom and top 10 in KenPom on both sides of the ball. That's a profile of a title contender. I have a concern with their slow pace because the relatively low number of possessions could keep an inferior team hanging around and able to undo a lot of defensive grinding with a 2-3 three-pointers in a row, but man they play every facet of the game well. What weakness do you exploit against UVA? Do they really have one?
Really? All weekend long I've read and heard that Iowa was a lock to make the tournament. Why? 21-10 and feeble down the stretch. Bad losses to Illinois and Ohio St. I don't get the love.
Real tough OOC schedule, too. Neutral losses to Dayton and Notre Dame, road loss at Iowa State, neutral win over Wichita State. BracketMatrix had them as a 7-seed this morning, probably settle in lower than that but in the field.Really?
They are an absolute lock.
- #28 RPI
- 2 wins v MSU
- 2 wins v Purdue
- 2 wins v Michigan
- 8-8 v Top 100
- #20 Kenpom
yeah, that outta tip the scales..Really?

ETA: I also wouldn't call the Ohio State loss a bad loss. They are #70 kenpom and it was at Ohio State.
They're no Western Kentucky, that's for sure.I'm not very smart and just started watching them when football died. They do not impress me.
They are a lock to make the tournament but they are also terrible. And the whole state smells like poop.Western Kentucky >>>>> LSU
Iowa 4-6 to close the year. Maybe recency is meaningless and they flip the switch in the tourney.
Oregon has owned them this year. Utah looks like they are giving up now.Expected better from Utah.
