Ndukwe playing time this week? (1 Viewer)

Playing Ndukwe is the best cause I get to play a player from my favorite yet horrible squad the BENGALS!

Will Dexter Jackson take away from Ndukwe this week???

PS - I still like Chris Perry somehow ;)

Oooh, excellent question--I hope someone knows the answer to this. Lucky for us a couple of the staffers live in Ohio!

No way to know for certain. My guess is that, unless he's upgraded to questionable and fully participating today, he'll miss this week's game and next week will be the week that we see how he'll be used. I don't think he gets enough snaps this week to hurt Ndukwe even if he is active.

There may not be any specific news about Jackson's role from the coaching staff until we see how a game plays out.

If Jackson isn't a team captain or even a team leader I can't see a switch from Ndukwe. I don't know enough about the Bengals. Input please.

Brett Favre fumbled. Chinedum Ndukwe recovered fumble and returned for 15 yards (Dave Rayner made PAT) 7 - 0

:hophead:

Any word on playing time this week? I've seen that Dexter has practiced all week, but haven't seen anything on what role he'll play.

After the way Ndukwe has been playing, it's going to be very hard to keep him off the field. The kid is a stud.

Dexter got a fair amount of practice time last week, too, but was left on the inactive list. He's not even on the injury report this week, so he'll probably be active. Marvin Lewis hinted at lineup changes in this week's press conference, but that may have been more of a Chris Perry/Cedric Benson thing than anything else. Ndukwe has missed a couple of tackles behind the line of scrimmage in the past two weeks and it's possible that Jackson steals some base defensive snaps. Still, Ndukwe is a Marvin guy and brings a big play identity that Jackson doesn't. Just guessing, but I think Jackson gets 10-15 snaps but not enough to kill all of Ndukwe's value.

:bs: Thanks for the information Jene. He's putting up great fantasy numbers, but it's good to hear your observations of real performance.

Ndukwe didn't have his "typical" game by looking at the stats. Did he have his usual playing time? How did he look?

really a weird BOX SCORE today

0 players with 4+ solo

2 players with 4 solo

4 players with 3 solo

3 players with 2 solo

30 total solo

23 total assisted

Ndukwe played nearly every snap, but wasn't in the box as often as in previous games. Jackson was used just as often, with Ndukwe left in White's former centerfielding role from time to time. As happened two weeks ago, Ndukwe was not credited with at least three solos he should have been. Some ended up as assisted tackles, some were given to other players without any credit to Ndukwe. He just missed intercepting two tipped passes as well.Jackson played nearly every down as well, with White probably playing 30-40%.

Does any of this impact Marvin White?
More snaps for Jackson probably means one or two extra chances for White.
Apparently not.
:confused:You never know what you're going to get with Marvin Lewis. John and I argued all offseason long that Ndukwe would likely be the starting SS and that Jackson and White were fighting for playing time. As OTAs wore on, it became clear that it was Ndukwe and Jackson fighting for the SS job and White looked safe. The local speculation was that poor angles and questionable tackling may have been the reasons behind White's benching. Unfortunately, Jackson doesn't really do anything well at this point, except make tackles when unblocked on weak side run blitzes. He looked okay today, but Ndukwe wasn't very effective in deep coverage. It would seem that White and Ndukwe would be the best tandem moving forward -- in their previous roles -- but we've been through this ad nauseum with Ahmad Brooks, Landon Johnson, Robert Geathers and now Pat Sims and Marvin White this year. What would look to be a player's best usage isn't what happens. We don't have the benefit of knowing every play call and seeing the coaches tape, but I'm not sure how Jackson helped the defense today (4.6 ypc against, three more long pass plays allowed). We'll see what happens next week. At this point, it would not shock me to see Ndukwe benched and White reinserted for coverage purposes. Jackson and Thornton in this lineup right now makes zero sense.

So is Crocker going to take his place or is White going to go back in? Thoughts?
I will defer to Jene, but I will say it'll be White and Ndukwe for the rest of the season.
I agree. The Bengals have nothing invested in Crocker. I would highly doubt that he'll see anywhere near as much time as Jackson did.
 I took the advice of Jene and various others and held on to White just in case.

Ndukwe did not practice today with a foot injury of some sort. No further information in any of the usual Bengal sources.

Enquirer.com

Starting strong safety Chinedum Ndukwe returned to practice today. He had missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a foot injury. He was listed as probable and practiced fully.
