Need a new Water Softener (1 Viewer)

Any recommendations? Probably go see what Home depot has. Any other places besides online to check out? Want someone to install.

if you are replacing one you really don't need someone to do it for you, it's basically just hooking up some hoses, no harder than hooking up a washing machine.

It's easiest if you replace what you have with same brand so everything is in the same place, but really not much harder with something new.

I like Water Boss, they work well and are easy to use.

VIa a recommendation from someone here (years ago) I got a Water Right filtration system from a local dealer/water company. No complaints.

I put in a GE softener from Home Depot two years ago. I am the most un-handy guy, and my man card was confiscated years ago.

This was incredibly easy. I bought a little pipe cutter thing, and two shark bite braided steel connectors. They're I think 18" long each. It took about an hour total.

Do you like the GE? This is what i was leaning towards. I have a two piece system now and plumbing is pretty high up the wall so i'm guessing plumbing will need to be done to lower the pipes. I have no experience there and will pay for an install if necessary.

Bump

Interested in what the OP eventually went with as we're on the market for one now (without one in place). We had Home Depot come out but they sent the guy with the super expensive system and the laundry list of why not to buy off-the-shelf and the hidden costs that will equate eventually, etc. Is a more expensive unit like a Rainsoft really worth it or are you all seeing a lot of success with off-the-shelf priced options?

In my case, there's no doubt our water is hard and we do live close enough to the treatment plant that our level of chemicals is higher than some others because it's trying to get all the way out to all customers in the line so we definitely need something that can tackle our rocky terrain and chemical scenario but not sure if it's worth shelling out the cash for a more top of the line system.

Looking at one as well. I don't have one now. Talked to the dude at Costco and he was throwing numbers like 3k around.

Still on my to-do list. I did have my water heater go out and had to replace that recently. Only 6 years old. They don't make stuff to last nowadays.

Yes, it's great. Inexpensive, easy to install and program.

i am on my second kenmore, both from sears.  i had local plumbers do The work, as i dont screw with water.  love em both and cost effective.

@matuski How is that Fleck Water Softener system you purchased from Amazon working for you?  I'm looking to add a water softener to my house, and most of the local installers want $2-3K to install one they sell.  Considering getting one of those off Amazon and paying someone to install it.  Which seller on Amazon did you get yours from?

ETA: I saw you purchased one in the Amazon thread when I searched water softeners on FBG.

Working great, got it from ABCwater.

I was already plumbed for it, was easy to install myself.  Watched a youtube video and knocked it out.

Nice, I'm just too lazy to try it myself.  Also need to replace a hot water heater at the same time, and I'm not messing with that.  May pull the trigger on that this week.  Same place I was considering ordering from.

FYI - If you have the loop already, free installation/haul old one away with Whirlpool Pro 31000  at Lowes. Includes no replace filter. We had one in our previous home and had no problems with it.

ETA: Changed the model from 46,0000 to 31,000 grain system. te 46,000 system doesn't include the filter. Also, if you don't need the installation, the price is under $700.

When you say loop do you just mean the plumbing going into/out of the softner?
Yes, that's what he's talking about.  A lot of houses that don't have the softener are set up with an accessible "loop" that you can use to insert your softener.  Mine is right in the garage next to the water heater, so I have great access  to both.

My daughter living in LA says the hard water is not good for her hair and may be causing some hair loss. She wants to install a water softener in her shower, possibly just the shower head variety for easy installation. The reviews vary, mostly positive, prices are from $20 to $200 for those with a separate filter filter and shower head. Does anyone have experience with these?
