I run a 10 team league with strict roster requiements, meaning we all draft 14 players qb1/2 rb2/3 wr3/4, 1/2 k 1/2 def/sp team 1

One of our dumb ### owners drafted Dominick Davis in the 2nd rd Lol we had our draft on 8/26

He's a new owner to our 10 yr. league and he comes from the world of Yahoo drafts. We don't allow pick-ups until after Week #1 of the season. When we do have pick-ups we use a blind bidding system with the players being awarded to you on Thurs. at 7:00pm. then from Friday 6:00 am we allow free for all pick-ups until Sunday morning Our FA cap is $70 and any player you pick up during the free for all period will still cost you a $1 against your cap.

well this owner is mad because he is not allowed to make a drop before the season starts. He says he has never heard of a league not allowing pick-ups before the season. My question to you guys is does his argument hold weight?? Is our league set-up that different from other leagues?? an would any of you guys change the rules to allow these pick-ups??

Our biggest thing against free for all pickups is most of our owners work different hours so free for all gives a unfair advantage to those guys working 3rd shift, so we try to make our league as fair as possible. We used to hae a IR but it caused more problems than it was worth

my league drafted the same day and we allow one round of add/drops in preseason.

i don't see why it's a problem. in your case it's a little late though.

I'm in both types of leagues. One where you can't pick up until the season starts, and others where you can pick players willy nilly......Both are OK so long as it is explained in the rules.......he sounds like a cry baby

You didn't hide the rule from him, did you? It seems a bit odd to not have add/drop in the preseason, but it's your rule. He has to deal with it. I had the same type of issue in a league that I don't commish and the guy didn't draft a kicker for whatever reason. Well, this week he gets no points because he didn't have a kicker to start to make an active lineup. It may be a rule he's never heard of, but it's a rule nonetheless. It's not your fault he didn't read the rules.

I always send people links to the LEAGUE RULES Page and let them cry. If you say up front, no waivers before the season starts, then that is a rule and too bad you drafted a player who was hurt.

I also am in both types and for us it often depends on when we have our draft. In one league we don't usually have a waiver run before week 1, but this year since the only time we could have the draft was early August we had one last week. Your draft was late enough, don't think it is necessary to have a waiver run before the season starts.

Don't understand why this is an issue since it is in your rules as to when you have your first waiver run, he knew that (or should have known that) when he joined the league and if he had an issue with it he should have brought it up when he joined or not joined at all.

We have open pickups following the draft until kickoff of week 1...

But seriously, as commish you have to lean on the rulebook here...I ask all our owners to acknowledge that they understand and consent to the rules...

Break it to him gently....but break it to him. It sucks when an owner misses a rule. I do my best to discuss new rules with all owners or old rules with new owners, especially ones that might trip them up. Empathize, and see if you have any other rules they might not be aware of. Rules are still the rules though.

My first questions to you would be:

Are the rules in writing? Word .doc or whatever

Did the new owner get a copy of the rules?

If both of these questions are a YES - then he does not have a case.

If both of these are NO - Then I would make him an EXCEPTION and I'd make plans to a: Have written rules and b: distribute them to every owner prior to each year.

Save ya a TON of trouble going forward

Ditto to what others said about if he had access to the rules and didn't take the time to learn them, that is his fault.

On the topic of how your rules work, there's nothing necessarily "wrong" with not having waivers before week one. But I've also never heard a good reason for not having them if there is some time between the draft and the start of games. Injuries happen and teams may need to make moves the same as during the season.

There is nothing stopping you from having pre-season waivers that are fair and give everyone an equal chance to waivers, unless you just don't want to do them. You can do bidding waivers preseason where everyone has several days to put a bid in before they are processed, and you can have queued up waiver picks that also accept claims over several days before processing. (If your website won't support those basic things then you might want to consider moving to MFL, RTS, or another decent website.)

My dynasty, salary cap leagues has blind bidding waivers that execute on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the preseason after the veteran auction. Everyone has plenty of time to get their bids in.

tell him he should of read the league rules before he played. Tell him he should of also did his homework on DD.I have been a commish for 9 years. I hate a pain in the ### owner.

In the league I run, there are no drop/adds until after week 1 either... even though we drafted 2 weeks before the season started. It is the owner's responsibility to draft depth in case a starter goes down before the season starts. I'm in plenty of leagues where the Dom Davis owner is eatin' it.... but then they should have drafted Lundy if they were gonna take a shot on DD.

What kind of moron picks up Dominick Davis and then complains about the rules.

Tell him maybe if he wasn't such a moron, he wouldn't have to worry about it.

That said, you should maybe allow at least one pickup between your draft and week #1 next year...
