Need QB in light of Brooks debacle for next 2 weeks (1 Viewer)

Brunell - at Dallas, at Houston (rest of year schedule poor)

Pennington - Patriots, at Bills (rest of schedule, not bad)

Alex Smith - Rams, Eagles (rest of schedule, easy)

Grossman - Detroit, at Vikes (rest of schedule, easy)

Carr - at Indy, Washington (rest of schedule, not bad)

Brad Johnson - Carolina, Chicago (rest of schedule, easy)

Who would you pick up for weeks 2 and 3, and who is the best prospect for the rest of the year?

I may combine 2 QB's here...

You drafted Aaron Brooks?

I actually drafted Trent Green, then Aaron Brooks. But with Brooks at Baltimore and then having a bye, that's not going to work the next two weeks. Brooks could put up numbers but not with that kind of protection he had last night.

I would add Carr of that group followed by Johnson.

With the Texans run game (or lack thereof), I think Carr will have good fantasy numbers. Not great, but his upside is better.

If you want consistent, I think Johnson will be the most consistent.

good post

exact same decision and i am leaning toward pennington + smith,

also considering kitna and nyron left

I'm looking at the same situation. I like Pennington. People forget that he's been a very good NFL QB when he's been healthy. Of course, he's an injury risk--but every NFL QB is an injury risk (see: Green, Trent).

Parity runs so rampant in the NFL these days that Brooks could come back and put up 3 TD's and the Raiders win 31-3 this week.

brooks will be ok this year but not this week at Balt and the following week is a bye. im not taking 3 weeks of 0's , ill pick him up in oct if i need him but having moss is enough of a liability for now

Of that group, I like A. Smith. He has some things I look for in a value QB:

* Good job security-- He's their guy, and the 49ers aren't really looking to win the division this year. They want "improvement" imo. Performances like last week will keep him in the lineup even if they lose most of their games.

* Should play from behind a lot-- garbage time could be valuable in San Francisco

* Some running ability-- I think this puts him ahead of Pennington and Brad Johnson

* good upside-- We really don't know how much he'll improve this year. He could really turn into something (think Brees in San Diego). With the others, you kind of know what their top potential is. Maybe he really can sling it in the NFL. That makes him worth a look.

What about Colins in Tennessee as a pick up?
Ugh. I'd take anybody who had been with his team longer than two weeks over Collins, even Charlie Batch.I'm diversifying, picking up (or trying to) Pennington or Smith, and Rivers in one case.

The sack frenzy continued this week in HOU, however. I'd rate Carr just above Collins.

I am starting to lean towards Alex Smith since he had no Vernon Davis, Frank Gore for most of the year, and Antonio Bryant last year. We don't know how much he will improve. Pennington's schedule isn't too bad, and neither is Brad Johnson's. At least Johnson has an offensive line. Carr has two good receivers, but will he have time. Grossman and Brunell don't interest me that much, so I've narrowed it to four, with Smith, Pennington, and Brad Johnson in the lead.
