Doing his 4th AMA in like a year, Tyson just posted the trailer for a reboot of Carl Sagan's Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.

I'm excited. Apparently Seth Macfarlane made the pitch to Fox and convinced them to take it on.

:thumbup: I've been rewatching Sagan's version streaming on Netflix. It's amazing how well it still holds up.

With all the science porn already on television (it's pretty much all my wife DVRs), I have a hard time believing this will feel as unique as it did when I was a kid.

They ran a different preview and it does look awesome.

I think they are going to make an effort to live up to the standing of the original monumental series.

Outstanding narrator choice.

So looking forward to this. I hope it does well. I would much rather see things like this than things like the Housewives of Outer Mongolia season 6.

 
This looks awesome. Remember watching with my parents, I wanted that dandelion seed ship thing that Sagan cruised around in.

Will be watching for sure, may have to visit one of Washington's new special horticultural shops to enhance the experience.

 
Never saw reruns of the 1980 hit. But just the commercial I saw for this one has me very interested. Some of the best shows on TV are the space shows on SciFi, Disc, etc. Not that it really matters, but will this have a drastically different feel?

 
Very much looking forward to this. He is one of the best science guys in media today and it looks like from the previews they aren't holding back in the effects department. My son is excited too as he loves this stuff.

I watched an episode of the original series on Netflix a while back after a visit to my local horticulturist. I personally would not recommend this approach. It's a little overwhelming.

I watched the original back in the day. I do plan on being in the proper mood when this comes on.

I'll definitely be watching but I wonder how much this will differentiate itself from shows like The Universe, Through the Wormhole, Curiosity, etc. It seems like they have a lot of this covered.

Tyson has a way of breaking stuff down that is reminiscent of Sagan. He makes things understandable. Plus this is on "regular" television. Not PBS or cable. It will get a lot more eyeballs than a lot of stuff that is out there. Some of it may be rehash for those of us who geek out to this stuff but for a lot of viewers they are going to be hearing it for the first time. I expect this thing to cause big waves and be boycotted, the works.

My daughter has already cleared space on the DVR for the series. She was blown away by the Cosmic Calendar when I introduced her to Cosmos.

 
All the Sagan episodes are on today, what an amazing show. I remember these when I was a kid, and I find these shows very interesting and very well done.

One nice little nugget about Sagan was that he was denied tenure at Harvard.

Yeah, but Sagan is dead so Harvard got the last laugh.

 
I hope this comes close to expectations. I am expecting the original to still be better, but you would think the visuals for this should be outstanding.

 
It was confusing setting the DVR to record NGC. I set it up to record Cosmos and got the Sagan stuff.

I don't think it will be anything like the original. I'm a fan of Tyson but Sagan had such a sense of wonder to his delivery you can't recapture that. If it's as good it will be so in a different way.

 
Didn't like the Bruno cartoon, but the rest was pretty good.

Definitely geared towards kids
