NERangers Rookie Draft REV 2.0 (1 Viewer)

Just something to do on a Snowy Day. I am definitely a novice...I did my first Rookie Mock draft ever last year (NERangers 2006 Rookie Draft) I get all my info from reading the threads here, and from Scott Wrights Website. Predicting the Rookie Draft right is like doing the perfect March Madness Card. If you knew what the Raiders were going to do, it would make it alot easier. I do think there will be a few trades going on...have a hard time seeing some of the players that are dropping just because a team does not need them. RB Adrian Peterson comes to mind. If you go by need, GB and the Texans probably need an RB most at this moment. For QB, the Raiders, Lions, Vikings, Dolphins (maybe?) and Texans all come to mind as well. I think Calvin Johnson will go #1 somehow...either by trade or pick by the Raiders.

I know Mocks are really just to get discussion going, so I added some trades (probably unlikely) to make it interesting, and keep players sliding down to teams that don't deserve them! LOL :fishing:

I give props to all the guys who can do these Mocks, especially more than one round!!! I was struggling at the end!

Any Help is greatly appreciated.

REV 2.0

1. Oakland Raiders – QB JAMARCUS RUSSELL - I still think if the Raiders do not want Calvin Johnson, then they should trade this pick to the Buccaneers. I still think they end up with one of the two QBs on the board and get a few extra picks to boot.

2. Tampa Bay Bucs (trade from Lions) – WR CALVIN JOHNSON – The Raiders should do this deal, but won’t. The Lions tried to do a trade with the Broncos earlier, so it shows they are willing to trade the pick. I just don’t see the Lions going after Calvin Johnson. (Trade value – 2600 to 2000) (Originally had DT AMOBI OKOYE with CJ going with the first pick)

3. Cleveland Browns – RB ADRIAN PETERSON – I was thinking that the Browns were all set at RB with the Jamal Lewis signing, but I have been set straight some based on the length of contract and all. The Browns could use a player like Peterson. (Originally had OT JOE THOMAS over Peterson)

4. Arizona Cardinals (trade from Lions) - OT JOE THOMAS – It will cost them a draft pick to move up a spot, but they get the guy they want. (Trade value 2000 to 1800) (Originally had DE GAINES ADAMS with Joe Thomas off the board)

5. Detroit Lions (trade from Arizona) – DE GAINES ADAMS – The scary think here is that the Lions look like puppet masters in my Mock draft. Two trades and one of the players they want to boot. (Originally had QB JAMARCUS RUSSELL to the Lions at the second pick)

6. Houston Texans (trade from Washington) – QB BRADY QUINN – The Texans move up to get ahead of the Vikings to secure there QB of the future. Washington only having one pick in the first five rounds is delighted to gain an extra pick. (Trade Value 1700 to 1500) (Originally had RB ADRIAN PETERSON sliding to them but now drafted by Cleveland)

7. Minnesota Vikings – DE JAMAAL ANDERSON – Quinn does not slide to them; Anderson is a great pick here. (Originally had QB BRADY QUINN sliding to them, but now have the Texans trading up)

8. Washington Redskins (trade from Houston) – DT ALAN BRANCH – Traded their pick and still got the player they want and an extra pick later in the draft.

9. Miami Dolphins – OT LEVI BROWN – Fills a need at Left Tackle (originally had S LARON LANDRY)

10. Atlanta Falcons – S LARON LANDRY – Fills a big whole in the Secondary (Originally had DE ADAM CARRIKER)

11. San Francisco 49ers – DE ADAM CARRIKER – Better pick for the 3-4 scheme. (Originally had DE JAMAAL ANDERSON bit Carriker better suited for the 49ers)

12. Buffalo Bills – RB MARSHAWN LYNCH – Tough call here. With McGahee traded away, I think RB is a pressing need. (Originally had ILB PATRICK WILLIS here, which still could be the right call).

13. St Louis Rams – DT AMOBI OKOYE – Originally thought he would go to the Bucs, but with the trade to acquire CJ, Okoye moves down the draft board. (Originally had CB LEON HALL)

14. Carolina Panthers – ILB PATRICK WILLIS – Fills a big need at LB. (Originally had OT Levi Brown, but now have him drafted to the Dolphins)

15. Pittsburg Steelers – CB LEON HALL – I originally went CB with the Steelers, and since Hall is an upgrade over Houston, I think this will be the pick. (Originally had CB CHRIS HOUSTON but now Leon Hall is available)

16. Green Bay Packers – TE GREG OLSEN - Unless they move up to get a RB, I don’t see the top two sliding to them. (Originally had RB MARSHAWN LYNCH, but now have him drafted by the Bills)

17. Jacksonville Jaguars – S REGGIE NELSON – Still the right pick for the Jags that need help at Safety

18. Cincinnati Bengals – CB CHRIS HOUSTON – CB is a position of concern. They lose out on TE GREG OLSEN to the Packers. (Originally had TE GREG OLSEN but now drafted by Green Bay)

19. Tennessee Titans – WR TED GINN, JR. I think the pick will be WR still, just not sure which one. (Originally had WR ROBERT MEACHEM who I feel I had ranked wrong)

20. New York Giants – OLB PAUL POSLUSZNY – Fills a big need

21. Denver Broncos – DE JARVIS MOSS – Rumor the Broncos are trying to move up in the draft, maybe to go after Gaines Adams?

22. Dallas Cowboys – CB DARRELLE REVIS – Secondary needs help. (Originally had OG JUSTIN BLALOCK)

23. Kansas City Chiefs – WR DWAYNE BOWE – (Originally had WR TED GINN, JR, but now drafted by the Titans)

24. New England Patriots – CB AARON ROSS – with two possible Safeties to draft, they risk going for the CB first (originally had S MICHAEL GRIFFIN)

25. New York Jets – CB MARCUS MCCAULEY – the run on CBs is on. (Originally had CB DARRELLE REVIS, but drafted by the Cowboys)

26. Philadelphia Eagles – OLB LAURENCE TIMMONS – Will help improve the line backing core.

27. New Orleans Saints – S BRANDON MERIWEATHER – Can play both S and CB (Originally had CB AARON ROSS but now drafted by the Patriots)

28. New England Patriots - S MICHAEL GRIFFIN – definitely need help in the secondary (Originally had CB MARCUS MCCAULEY, but have the Pats going CB with the first pick instead of the second)

29. Baltimore Ravens – OT JOE STALEY – Might be a reach in the first round, but fills a need (Originally had DE ANTHONY SPENCER)

30. San Diego Chargers – WR DWAYNE JARRETT – need help in the passing game. (Originally had WR DWAYNE BOWE)

31. Chicago Bears – DT JUSTIN HARRELL – Need to trade down on this pick and get Harrell in the second round. Maybe they still go WR here with ROBERT MEACHEM (Originally had WR DWAYNE JARRETT but now drafted by the Chargers)

32. Indianapolis Colts – OLB JON BEASON – Best OLB on the board

49ers--Jamaal Anderson
Take him out and put a WR in there. If you are deadset on putting a DE in there, make it one who can hold up in both the run and pass in the 3-4 Nolan is running....Carriker.

Thanks, I almost flipped my Carriker and Anderson picks on what I read (Carriker is versatile enough to fit in at either end or tackle in a 4-3 or end in a 3-4 scheme ). I think you are right here. I am not sure they would reach for the WR before the DE.

7 Minnesota Vikings QB BRADY QUINN - Vikings need a QB, and Brady can get the job doneAlternative: DE JAMAAL ANDERSON
I'm not sold the Vikes taking Quinn here. Tavaris Jackson is just entering his second season and got some NFL experience towards the end of last season. One could argue that this was to see what he could do going into the off-season in preparation for drafting a QB, but 4 NFL games isn't enough to determine if a QB doesn't have it. Jackson also possess the running element, which give defenses one more thing to prepare for. The Vikes invested a second round draft pick (64) on him and would look foolish drafting Quinn here.I can see Quinn slipping a bit towards the middle of the round to the Panthers, similar to what happened to Leinart last year, due to his not working out at the combine, a safe and predictable follow-up workout at ND and most importantly his inaccuracy. The Vikes will probably go DE or could slide down to the middle of the round and grab a CB. The Vikes were the best D against the run last year and worst against the pass. One could also argue that's because why run when you can throw the ball all day, but it's just an alternate idea.

Thanks for the input...that is why I put DE as the alternative to Quinn. Tough to figure out where Quinn would fit in. I keep thinking that if the Vikings did not have to trade up to get him, then they would like the prospect of having him.Jacksonville could be a good place for Quinn to be taken. I keep thinking that if there is an good available QB for the Texans at their pick, they might have to go for it. I forgot that they signed Ahman Green when I did this draft, so maybe Peterson would not be a lock over Quinn. That being the case, Peterson could end up sliding to the Falcons as a replacement for Dunn at some time. I know they have Norwood though.

Quinn won't make it past Miami. That's as far as he falls. IMHO.

Miami was another team I considered him for, but with Culpepper there, I was not sure they would go for a QB with so many other needs.
