I'm in a CBS league that does an autodraft, and it appears that this year they drastically changed the format in a way that will make for a very strange draft. I realize that autodrafting always yields some strange results, but check this out:
This year, you rank players by position, then you rank what position you want it which round. While this will probably work out pretty well in later rounds, BUT early on it's just madness. Take Tom Brady for example... if a team wants to draft him, they have to have the earliest QB pick in the first round in which any team chooses to draft a QB, or else they'll get the next available QB. In our league, this is especially tough, because there are 10 keepers and Brady wasn't one of them (that team chose to keep Addai), so in essence, he has already fallen into the second round. Brady should be gone within the first three picks, but if you have the third pick, and you choose to select a QB, you could get Carson Palmer (Manning is a keeper) while Portis, Barber and Gore are still on the board. If nobody wants to risk that and everyone goes with some combination of WRs and RBs for the first two rounds of the draft, Brady becomes a fourth round pick (counting keepers as round 1), and the first team to take a QB is LOADED. Like QB, choosing which round to take a tight end will be very tricky.
It makes the ranking players far less important than correctly guessing where owners will choose to take different positions.
