New concept league? (1 Viewer)

I have played FF now for several years.....I really like the challenge of a dynasty league over a redraft. However I like all types of leagues.

I was trying to think of new ideas to come up with for more challenging leagues. Has anyone ever heard of seen a league that uses a specific teams WR, RB, TE...etc.. for example the Texans WR corps, or the Falcons WR corps. Ravens RB group and so on.

This could even be used for Defensive players, again for example Colts DL's or Vikings LB's.

It would probably have to be a league no larger than 10 teams and have limits of probably 2 or maybe 3 team positions that could be drafted.

I have thought about this concept some and think it would work. I have tried to look at some combined weekly point totals to see if it could be competitive. I think it could be, but I don't think there is a website that would support this type of scoring.

I would like to get some feedback from you guys as to drawbacks that you see if this idea......I know there would be some but I just want to get other opinions.

I know MFL will let you use Team Dl, LB and CB. The also allow team QB and TE but not WR's and RB's. In my opinion using the team option on the offensive side wouldn't be that much fun at all. Using it on the defensive side gives you a hybrid between IDP and team defenses. I started messing around on the MFL site trying to come up with a crazy league for next year. I was looking at using the team Dl, LB and CB options. I was also looking at using a punter and head coach. I set up a fake league and randomly picked rosters to see how viable it is to use these options. Here is the link to my "fake" league if you want to check out the scoring. http://www5.myfantasyleague.com/2009/home/78518

I've also added a bunch of other scoring options that I have never used before. It is a distant scoring league for TD's but it has a bunch of other funky rules. If a QB takes a sack he loses a point. Also if he throws an INT for a TD it is -9. (-3 for the int, and -6 since it cost his team 6 points) but a QB gets points for passer rating and completions/incompletions.

As for Rb's and Wr's they get points for avg per rush, avg per receptions as well as rushes and targets. For punters they score for punting avg as well as punts inside the 20. They are penalized for block punts. For coaches they get points for wins and lose points for losses. It only has 13 teams so one week each team plays the league average. I also give the home team a 10 point home field advantage.

Like I said before there are some crazy rules. I just set it up earlier in the week so there are no standings. You can look at the points from 2008. I haven't decided if I will try this next year or not. If you have some different ideas e-mail me at Chili1034@msn.com

This is getting more interesting as I watch this thread. I did not realize MFL allowed the grouping of the IDP players (basically) like you set up in your fake league. Hopefully some scores are added after this weeks games to get a little better picture how this would work.

I wish I would of thought of this when MFL offered their midseason leagues for free. A couple of ideas popped into my head a few weeks ago but I didn't want to start a league next year and have the scoring system out of whack. There would be nothing worse than a punter scoring more points than the top QB's every week. The team defense position concept gives kind of a hybrid between a team defense and IDP. I had to cut the tackles down from 1 pt to .2 pts because the scoring for certain positions were outrageous. On average I would like to see a LB unit get 12-15 points per week unless they have a ton of turnovers or score some TD's. I will probably tweak them some more after this weeks games. I have no sample to go from except the Jets/Bills game.

Another minor isssue is the live scoring won't be accurate because of the QB rating. Those stats aren't figured until the game stats are final. I'm sure they would be accurate by Monday morning for Sunday games.
