I began searching for a startup dynasty league to join this year a couple of weeks ago and after seeing repeated posts from others also looking for new dynasty leagues, I figured I may as well just look into starting my own. My hope that is by starting the process now, I am able to find friendly, competitive, stable, active, and competent owners to join the league who will last for many seasons to come and help make this a very successful league!
Since intially making this post a few days ago, I have received several inquires from very qualified people who seem to truly be interested in this type of system and format. Including myself, there are now 7 owners who have expressed interest and said they would love to join, with another 2 highly interested but not yet fully commited (although I expect them to commit at some point in the near future) so at this point we are looking for 3 more qualified owners to fill out the league, with the outside chance we will end up needing 5
What I am looking for- very involved, intelligent, football smart, enjoyable people who have no problem being active over the course of an entire year (not just the football season). It takes a group of owners who stay active year round to really make a dynasty league tick and work to a high level and that is what I am seeking. A dynasty league is not for everyone, as it requires a true passion for both the sport of football and the hobby of fantasy football, so I am looking for those individuals that possess both those passions! Please only apply if you are truly interested in joining the league long term and if you have a lifestyle, job, etc... that will afford you the ability to be active enough for your involvement to be an asset to the community of the league.
What I bring to the table- a very dedicated, competitive, and involved owner who has both the passion, drive, and experience to help make this league a success. I used to be in a dynasty league years ago with real life friends, but it transformed into a yearly re-draft league and am looking to scratch that dynasty itch again! I have experience running said dynasty league, as I was the commissioner, so I am fully capable of managing all the mundane day to day things that are necessary for an involved league to work. I am somewhat of a football nut, having essentially not missed watching a Sunday of football in years (hell, I rarely miss Saturday college football for that matter). I consider myself quite knowledgeable when it comes to the sport and pride myself on being smarter than the average when it comes to this little hobby of ours (although I am the same guy who thought Reggie Bush would be the greatest thing since sliced bread when he first came into the league, so maybe I'm actually an idiot in disguise!)
My preferences for league setup would be as follows:
Rosters
1 QB
1 RB
1 WR
3 Offensive Flex (RB, WR, or TE)
1 TE
1 K
3 Defensive Flex (DL, LB, DB)
Scoring
TD's = 6 points (passing, rushing, receiving, returning, etc...)
Passing yards = 1 point per 25 yards
Rushing yards = 1 point per 10 yards
Receiving yards = 1 point per 10 yards
Return yards = 1 point per 50 yards
Reception = 0.5 point
Fumbles = -2 points
Interceptions = -2 points
Made field goal from 0-49 yards = 1 point
Made field goal from 50+ yards = 2 points
Missed field goal from 0-49 yards = -1 point
Solo tackle = 1 point
Pass defensed = 1 point
Sack = 3 points
Forced fumble = 3 points
Fumble Recovery = 3 points
Interception = 3 points
I also would not be against a decimal point scoring system if that is what the majority preferred (0.25 for every passing yard, 0.1 for every rushing receiving yard)
League Size
This league will be 12 teams, as I and the other interested owners believe that is the ideal size to avoid it being watered down but still be large enough to add a good level of detail and necessity to scour for sleepers
Draft
Offline slow serpentine draft (I am also not totally against a live online draft, if we are able to mesh everyones schedules). Draft order will be determined by a random number generator. I forsee the draft beginning in late August if it is offline, or else early September right before the season begins if it is online
Entry Fee
The entry fee will be $50 in the initial year (if everything works and runs smoothly, this certainly could go up or down in future years). All money will be housed on league safe. There will also be a nominal website fee, pending which website we choose to use
Playoffs
Semi standard format, with the top 4 or 6 teams making the playoffs. The playoffs begin week 15 if 4 teams or week 16 if 6 teams. I have used a rather unique system in the past in which the first place regular season team earns an automatic bye into the championship game, while the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place regular season teams play a 1 week free for all in week 15, with the winner advancing to the championship game. I highly like this system, as it limits any ridiculous luck causing wacky things to occur in the playoffs but still allows underdog stories to happen! However, I am open for discussion on the specifics for the playoffs
Website
I know the flavor of the month is MFL.com, but I have no experience with that. I have only ran leagues on CBS Sportsline, so that would obviously be my preference, but if we find anyone who has the ability and knowledge to manage a MFL site, I have absolutely no problem using that at all
If you are interested, email me at jherm23@gmail.com or send me a PM on the forums here. Please include some info about yourself and what your experience with both dynasty leagues and fantasy football in general is. Once we start to build a little bit of a base of ownership, we can move forward and flesh things out by purchasing a website, actually setting up the league home, etc... I realize we do still have 3 months, but the sooner things get put in place the better!
