I haven't the foggiest idea what the Pats plan to do today.

If they wanted Zak DeOssie, they may have waited a bit too long. He is LBer that fits the system...ie, he has the size they like, the motor, the football intellect and the genes to boot. I have been pimping him on this board for weeks as I was confident he would have been a first day pick. I still see him going early in the 4th and only wish the Pats could grab him.

I also wouldn't be against them taking one of the RB values left, whether it be Bush or Pitman, although DB Tanard Jackson and LB Brandon Siler represent nice value.

With the amount of picks the Pats have today if there's anyone they covet they can obtain him. I agree about RB. I'd like to see one more set of legs added to the mix. Word is they were sniffing around Chris Brown this week so it will be interesting to see what happens today.

One thing I found very interesting from Mike Mayock. Inbetween picks #24 and #28 he was talking about David Harris (who a lot of us liked, myself included). He said that NFL front offices in general do not like drafting LBs in the first round unless they can play three downs. Harris is seen as a run-stuffer who will not be a three down guy. That could be a big reason why the Pats passed on him and why he slipped a lot further than many of us thought he would.

I think it does mean this, yes. I doubt the Pats come awaywith 8 draftees today. I think they probably try to package those three picks to get another pick in the 5th round to grab a player they like.Also, just want to say I continue to be excited by this offseason. Exactly. People may criticize them coming away with only one pick, but the true story is what they really got from the draft and picks, and they got a lot. Max value out of that #28? Not the best I've ever seen, but I didn't like what was on the board. All the good secondary and LB talent was gone. Why waste the pick? Trade it, and SF was probably the best value they could get. Apparantly they didn't like DeOssie as much as others. I felth they had enough left to package late to move up and get him. I didn't think he's last until they picked. With Brown and 11.5 sacks, that's impressive, but I can't say I know the guy. The CSU guy they just took same thing. A mountain from the mountains. They develop OL's wonderfully, so it'll likely be solid.

The productive offseason continues.

You are probably right...I can only go by what I read, and I was looking at the list of players that were slipping. Alexander was listed as #8th overall for OLB, so I thought it would be good value for the Pats.

Randy Moss wasn't kidding about being willing to play for less money. The contract he agreed to with the Patriots reduced his pay for 2007 to $3 million. He was scheduled to earn $9.75 million. Moss can also earn more in incentives.

Gutierrez in focus

The Patriots have reached a contract agreement with quarterback Matt Gutierrez, according to the Ann Arbor News.

Gutierrez played at Michigan before suffering a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, and gave way to Chad Henne in 2004. He transfered to Idaho State.

ESPNews reports New England Patriots QB Tom Brady restructured his contract to help facilitate the addition of WR Randy Moss.

Brady deserves a tip of the cap

Because the Patriots had to acquire the original terms of Moss's contract as part of the trade with the Raiders, the team needed to clear salary cap space to absorb the $9.75 million figure that Moss was scheduled to earn.

Enter Brady, who agreed to restructure his present contract that runs through 2010 to create the space.

That allowed the Patriots to finalize the trade for Moss, who then tore up his old contract and signed a one-year, $3 million deal that could be worth up to $5 million in incentives.

"Tom does what he can in order to win," said Don Yee, his agent.

I love what the Patriots have been doing this offseason, and with the draft. I am also glad to see that they are not done, and are continuing to look for players they thing will strengthen the team.

The boston globe reported that the Pats brought in Bears veteran defensive lineman Ian Scott. Haven't heard much else yet...The Vikings, Broncos and Falcons are also showing interest.

On a side note, I saw that the Browns released OG Joe Andruzzi.

Cleveland has added a lot to the OL this offseason but I am surprised they cut Andruzzi. The Pats have such depth on the line that I doubt they would give one of the young Lineman's spots to Andruzzi. He was VERY VERY solid as a Patriot though. Loved Andruzzi.

There was some confusion as to Belichick's contract status earlier in the thread because his contract was set to run out at the end of the 2006 season. I just checked with Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe and he informed me that last time he asked the Pats about Belichick's contract status he was told that Belichick was signed "beyond 2007" but that's all they would tell him as it is their policy not to discuss contracts. So he has to be signed at least through 2008.

ESPN.com reports free-agent LB Junior Seau (Patriots) will reportedly re-sign with the New England Patriots, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The newspaper, citing an unnamed source, said Seau would likely re-sign with the team this week, pending a physical.
