New IDP League Question (1 Viewer)

UTJD

Footballguy
I am playing in an IDP league for the first time this year. I think the commissioner has made an error in setting up the league and I am looking for some input. My issue is this. In this league we will start:

1 QB

2 RB

3 WR

1 TE

1 K

1 Team DEF

2 DB

2 DL

and 1 Flex Defensive Player.

My concern is that he has only provided us with 7 bench spots. By my numbers this doesn't even allow for a backup at every position. With the flex player I plan on drafting a LB. I prefer to carry 2 Team Defenses that have favorable schedules in relation to each other, which I obviously wouldn't be able to do here. Is this an unusually high number of IDP players? With this many IDP players how many bench spots are typically available. Seven is the number I have on my bench in my other two leagues and there are no IDP players in those. Thanks for any input.

Seven backups will be awfully light for that starting lineup. You can probably get by with an extra QB, two RBs, two WRs, an extra IDP and two spots to use wherever you need them most. It'll be very difficult to plan around short term injuries and bye weeks, however, or to hold a player who's gotten off to a poor start.

There's no standard IDP setup; some leagues only use 1 IDP at each position, many use a 2DL/3LB/3DB lineup and a growing number are using expanded 11 man IDP lineups. Most leagues will have nearly the same number of backups as starters, depending on the number of teams and whether the league is dynasty or redraft.

Most would probably argue that ten bench slots would be the minimum for a lineup like this, allowing for 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 2 TE/PK/TD rotating spots and 3 IDP bench slots. Some leagues with lineups like this would allow 12 or more.

Quarterback (QB) 1

Wide Receiver (WR) 2

Running Back (RB) 2

Tight End (TE) 1

Wide Receiver/Tight End (W/T) 1

Wide Receiver/Running Back (W/R) 1

Kickers (K) 1

Defense/Special Teams (DEF) 1

Defensive Player (D) 2

Defensive Lineman (DL/LB) 2

Defensive Back (DB) 2

Bench (BN) 7

that's what we had last year.
