New League Rules Draft Strategy?? (1 Viewer)

My league went from a 10 team one QB league to a 12 team one QB League that has a flex position that can be any offensive position (QB, RB, WR, or TE).  6 points for all TDs and PPR.  I have the No. 1 Draft position and its taking everything I have not to say I need to draft a QB at no. 1.   Is this too far fetched to do or should I play it safe and take RB Johnson at 1??  24 and 25 are going to take forever to come back.....  Thanks for the input!

Just because it's now superflex doesn't mean QBs suddenly rise to the top.  And the other 11 teams arent going to draft both their QBs in rounds 1 and 2, so there will be plenty of quality QBs coming back to you at 2/3, or even 4/5.

I see the QB crop this year as going 17-18 deep, so I'd take offensive stars with my first 3 picks, cheer everytime someone grabbed a QB early (better talent falling to me!), and take a QB in the 5th, maybe another in the 7th.

I don't care if it's a superflex.  You take DJ 1 overall.

I did a mock assuming 12 team PPR, 1QB/2RB/3WR/1TE and a superflex.  Only 6 QBs went in the first 23 picks.  Here was my first 8 picks in that draft (from the 1 hole)

DJ, Howard, Cooper, Mariota, Roethliberger, Sanders, Powell, Garcon..............yes you're a little weak at WR, but you have THE best backfield (plus a very good RB3), and Mariota/Big Ben is a decent combo.

I went QB/QB in the 4/5 swing.  If you took Arodin's advice, your QB in the 7th would be Flacco....so I don't recommend that.  I think that you need to take 2 QBs with your first 5 picks.  I just showed that you don't have to take one in the first 3 rounds.  But it is a 6 pt TD pass so they may go faster than this mock....if so, you may be forced to take one in the 2/3 swing (or even take 2 QBs there).

So just take DJ at 1 and go BPA from there, and make sure you aren't on the wrong side of a QB run.

I'm somewhat of the belief that once the safe skill position guys run out, then its time for a run of elite QBs in a superflex. I wouldn't take a QB in round 1 no matter what, but rounds 2 and 3 are where I would look to target guys.

I'd still go Johnson at #1. There is probably a solid chance you can pull something like Wilson, Newton from the turn, or maybe Luck if he falls a bit.

I would agree with the consensus  here that you cannot pass up DJ at #1 even in the superflex.  The only thing is that since this will be the first year your league is doing this there may be an unusual urgency for QB's from the other owners.  This may lead to a run at the end of the first and early second mainly because everyone may have it in their mind they have to take QB early.  This could be to your advantage but may mean you should take 1 QB at the 2/3 turn.  Just monitor how the QB's are going off the board and make sure you don't get stuck without a top 10ish QB.
