Everyone has seen the sketches floating around for the new Nike uniforms. http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/2010/11/1...ersey-sketches/

The league has clearly said the sketches are not from the league and are not from Nike. But obviously, that doesn't mean there won't be big changes when the real uniforms come out.

As the Ravens article says:

When the NFL announced Nike Inc. will become the league’s official uniform provider starting in 2012, Nike’s Brand President Charlie Denson was clear that he wanted to make big changes.

We plan on changing the NFL jersey dramatically just like we’ve done with the college programs, using new thinking and the greatest technology available,” said Denson. “The NFL program hasn’t had the same type of advancement in recent years.”
How much do you think the new uniforms will be different?J

Slight or significant, but not dramatic. Statements like that are marketing hype. It's too conservative a league to do something that far outside of the box.

I hope this whole uniform thing is a joke or just a brilliant move by Nike to get billions of dollars in free advertising dreaming up the ugliest possible uniform the human mind is capable of.

It will be interesting to see how the No Fun League balances their conservative nature with what Nike pushes to do. Ultimately, the league signs off on everything...but Nike is rumored to be paying the league $100M-$150M/year for a business that's only $300M/year at cost...so could have unprecedented freedom.

One thing we'll certainly see is updates to the fabrics, performance aspects, lines, etc.

Retailers are definitely excited. As ugly as many think some of their college looks are...they sell and they create excitement.

Did something change that allows the NFL to change the uniform design for teams? Isn't that something left up to each team?
Teams are involved. But if the NFL wants to do a Combat Uni, every team will have to do it. And a team can't do something on their own without league approval.

I think overall the change will be slight just like the NFL emblem has evolved over the years. You can see the resemblence of the old but can also see the modern in it. I expect these uniforms to be the same. They'll be a more modern twist but you'll be able to see some of the old uniform in it as well. I expect a couple of the uniforms to possibly be more different than the others. For example, just looking at some of those pictures, it looks like the Bengals uniforms are slightly more different than some of the others. I'm not saying the Bengals WILL be more different than others but a couple teams may look more different than others.

Sure. The question I have is whether folks think the real Nike uniforms will be much different than what's out there currently.

J
Considering what my alma mater has done with their uniforms I would expect some change. Oh yea, and my alma mater is currently the #1 team in the nation!!! It is also where Phil Knight went to school.Change rules!! GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Nike college uniforms are terrible. I think the cutting edge desire the NFL hoped for when they signed the deal with Nike will receive push back from the NFL front office when they see what Nike has in store for them.

Most people don't like change so they will always say the old unis are better. I'm ok with them revamping the uniforms in 2012.

Concept jerseys I like more than what they currently wear:

Ravens

Bengals (just the helmet)

Colts (version 1 is better than 2)

Bears

Falcons

Titans

Raiders

Redskins

Rams (maybe my favorite)

Broncos (minus the helmet)

I'm all for Nike pushing the limits of design. The NFL has become so stale. It would be nice to see teams were a pro combat style of uniform 3 or 4 times a year instead of the same design we have seen the last 30 years.

Not liking what Nike has done to the Pitt and WVU unis. :(
I agree.....very ugly. Obviously the Panthers matched the level of their play to that of their new threads.
Man, they were awful. I wonder in Wanny survives this effort.
Not wanting to hijack this thread on threads, but yes, Wanny needs to go and Pitt needs to find an coming head coach and if he pans out, pay him great money so it does not become a stepping stone job. Follow the recipe that worked for Jamie Dixon in the men's basketball program. A big problem is the suckiness of the Big East football conference. But yes, time for Wanny to go.
