Always look into the numbers before you decide to sit or start a player based on their opponents defensive rankings. In the case of the Saints it pays to look at their opponents passing games before you get worried about their #1 ranking.

Date Opponent Time/Result

Sep 9 Minnesota Won 14-9

Sep 20 @San Francisco Won 25-22

Sep 26 Atlanta Lost 24-27 OT

Oct 3 Carolina Won 16-14

Oct 10 @Arizona Lost 20-30

Oct 17 @Tampa Bay Won 31-6

Oct 24 Cleveland Lost 17-30

Oct 31 Pittsburgh Won 20-10

Nov 7 @Carolina Won 34-3

Week 10 BYE

Besides for Atlanta, who on that list is scary through the air? Favre sucks this season and was awful his first game.

Could they have done better than #1? Sharper recently returned, too, so they weren't even full strength til recently. Plus, the NO offense hasn't been great, putting more pressure on their defense to shut down the offense. I'd say they've earned their ranking.

They did well against Roethlisberger...but that was more them taking advantage of the offensive line and blitzing him repeatedly rather than the secondary's defensive effort.

You're aware all 11 players on defense play both pass and run D, right?

Funny. They've also accumulated the league's #1 pass defense without 2 starting corners...

Bench them and/or start Hasselbeck at your own risk...

They haven't faced anyone in the top 12 offenses. The 13th ranked offense (Atlanta) went for 228 and 2 touchdowns along with over 200 yards rushing.

I'd say the OP has a point.

I realize it's the same guys blitzing or dropping back into coverage, but I'm saying blitzing and pass coverage are two different skillsets. Just because you can blitz doesn't mean you can cover receivers well.

N.O. homer here. Saints pass defense is for real yo.

Porter and Greer have been hurt the last several weeks and are coming back healthy now.

Sharper coming back has given the defense a better edge.

All safeties are playing rock solid.

The backside is on lockdown, I don't care who you are. Will they give up some yards occasionally yes. But there aren't 5 pass defenses in the league I'd rather than them.

When Pitt came to play them everyone said it was bogus..how did Pitt throw that night ?

Greer and Porter are the most underrated DB's in the game and they have been out the last few games. N.O. pass defense will be more potent in their return.

Saints played several weeks without their first, second, and third corner as well as missing their true starting free safety, as well as playing two games without there starting strong safety. They also started the year without really knowing who would step up and play OLB. At one point in the Steelers game they had 5 Safeties on the field due to lack of healthy corners. Start WR's against them at your own risk

Seattle is the 20th ranked passing attack.Hass 366/1/0BMW 6/109They visit the 4th ranked passing attack Thursday. :goodposting:
They played from behind most of the game.
Hass put up 250/1 in the 1st half including a 68 yard bomb to BMW and a 42 yarder to Obamanu.

So, how do we feel about this now?Ryan: 15/29, 149, 1TD, 1 Sack. At Home.In a way that was an improvement over what he did vs the Saints in 2009:19/42/289 (including a long of 68) /1TD/3 INT/ 3 Sacks RODDY WHITE: 3/43/1 (short TD there, he hardly burned anyone on that one).Remaining wide receivers: 5/40/0, all Jenkins.Gregg Williams did it to Brady, Warner, then Favre (in 2009, the good MVP Favre, not this year's version), then Peyton Manning. The win against Tampa just keeps looking better, they did it to Ben, and they've done it to Ryan twice now.
