New Printer Weak WiFi Signal (1 Viewer)

James Daulton

My old printer recently bit the dust so I picked up an Epson Workforce wf-7710.  It's sitting right next to the modem and router but when I run it through setup if it sees the network and connects it lists the signal strength as weak.  When I try to install the espson software on the laptop I want to be able to access the printer, the software can't find the printer on the network even though the printer says it's connected.

Thoughts?  Other than employing the ol' sledgehammer which would likely void the printer warranty.

Personally, I would take the sledge hammer route.

ETA...this, of course, coming from a guy who has a Cannon WiFi printer but has to hard wire my laptop to it every time I want to print something.  F printers

Could it be the frequency band?  I had my modem running on 5mhz only and I had a few things that wouldn't connect well - I activated the dual band (2.4 mhz as well), and stuff started working.  Sometimes manufacturers cheap out on their wireless stuff and don't support 5 mhz.

:goodposting:   So true.  WiFi cameras are the same way.

I'll give it a shot.

So I ran speedtest and got 1 down and 14 up.  I used to get almost 20 down and 14 up.  I have the same Arris Surfboard and TP link router I've been using for the last 2 years or so.  This can't be comcast throttling me could it?

Not likely, I'd reboot both the modem and the router. Power both off and then power on the modem, once it's up and shows proper online status lights then power on the router.

It's not the modem.  I plugged directly into it and got almost 100 down.  Rebooted all and now I'm still only getting 5 down from the router.  Time to get a new router?
