hey guys, long time fbger and risker here.

ive seen this thread for years now and have always been interested in joining in.

any advice or tips to get me started?

my buddies and i are playing classic tonight during the game. i just discovered the bar i frequent has a copy of the original remake.

ahh, to play with wooden pieces again. :hey:
Play the single player games to get a feel for the basic rules, strategy, uses of the basic cards, etc. It's similar to, but not exactly like Risk. All turns are taken at the same time, for example.PM me the email address you use there. I'll invite you to a tournament that will give you all the names of the FBG players. When you're ready to take on live opponents, you can set up your own game and invite whoever you want, or others will create fbg games that you can join. You can also join random games against random warlight users to get additional experience. Any questions about how the game works, or strats, or whatever, post here.

Ok, I set up a new tourney with the NY map. The Africa one looks like fun too, but we'll save that for a later tournament.

Very Foggy with Recon and Surveillance cards. Other settings are typical FBG, except neutrals of 3.

Once everyone has joined, I'll randomize teams again, so please check back periodically for chat.

thanks for the help. ive registered and looked at some stuff but havent pleyed yet. will post when ready.

Somebody join me on Team M. Be nice to play with some FBGs instead of just against them.
Sweet. Pulled in fatguyinalittlecoat and bostonfred. Now I know what it's like to be Chris Bosh playing for the Heat. :prohibitivefavorite:
:lmao: except that the Heat suck.Dominant performance to win the Middle East tournament, and our unbeaten ways continue in East Asia. Pretty legendary team we've got here.

bostonfred or enrico, join me in this tournament: http://warlight.net/App.aspx?TournamentID=842

The jerk killed the tournament where he invited people before he got the teams he wanted and created a new one. Unfortunately, he created a new one that was invite only and bf, enrico and I are the only fbgs I see. Looks like it's teams of two.

Dragons, looks like we've got 21 signed up in the FBG round robin. Randomize the teams before someone else signs up and we have to try to scrounge up 24.

There are a few topics on the support forums about games (esp. tourney games) that are stuck due to strange boot settings and/or people who have quit or are abusing warlight.

The site's creator is understandably reluctant to fix them until there is critical mass on uservoice.

Read the last few threads to see people's arguments, and a few proposals about how to fix it. here are some of the uservoice ideas

https://warlight.uservoice.com/forums/77051...s-of-inactivity

https://warlight.uservoice.com/forums/77051...69193-auto-boot

https://warlight.uservoice.com/forums/77051...t-a-maximum-boo

You omitted my UserVoice suggestion, which is:

http://warlight.uservoice.com/forums/77051...ames-be-unstuck

And yes, I did misspell ability. Anyway, this proposal provides for users to contact Randy after 30 days to request that games be unstuck. I don't believe that the other proposals address games that are already stuck, unless I'm misreading them.

I don't think Randy's reluctance makes any sense whatsoever. He's acting like people made conscious choices to have the "never boot" option in their games or tournaments when in all likelihood it was just a mistake in the vast majority of cases. He should be looking at it as a function of what's best for the Warlight community. If some jerk is holding up a tournament, or a tournament or game is being held up because people left the site, then he can unstick the games in question upon request and make a lot of other users happy as a result. I suspect, reading between the lines of his responses in the WL forum, that he just doesn't want to be bothered.

In any event, in the face of his weird intransigence and other (predictable) considerations, I find myself losing interest fast and moving back to concentrating on games. When's the new FBG tourney going to start? :blackdot:

Enduring mystery of the ages.

You log into your Warlight game. Your teammate has offered his surrender, but has not submitted a move. You have not. You offer your surrender without accepting your opponent's surrender, and do not submit a move either.

Honestly, you don't need to be an FBG to see the problem here.

Just be glad that the more times they do this, the easier it is to exclude them from future games.

He could have meant, "You did a better job picking starting spots.", but it sounds like a complaint of dumb luck.

More bad luck, see chat. I'm really starting to feel for some of these guys.

Tick, I also avenged you with General Butt Naked, I was dreading that I would be facing you.

I think you missed the strange part in the chat from the game I posted. He posted it before the game even started.

No, I clearly saw it. I can't complete with that randomness. Maybe fatguy will have some luck with developing that shtick. The best I can do is laugh at people whining about their starting spots.

Yeah, not my best there... he had a better strategy to start than I did - mine was good if he hadn't been right on me, but his was good for the situation we ended up with. Strange that he chose completely different starting spots against you.

This is a thing I usually see with new players. They'll pick places all over the map. Not a good strat.

I must be doing something very wrong with this game, because I just can't seem to beat it. By the time I've captured 2 or 3 territories, the opponents already have 5 or 6, just dominating me on the armies/turn front.

What the hell are they doing that I'm not?

Right after that post, I started up another game and won in 37 turns. I guess the main strategy is to go fast-fast-fast.

Which scenario are you playing? The general strategy in a free for all game is to build as fast as you can while avoiding heavy conflict as long as you can.Of course, it's not always that simple.

I was doing the single player levels (#3).

Starting spot plays a big role in potential success on the original Earth map. Starting in South America, Antartica, Australia, Canada or East Russia (the bonus amount isn't worth the time it takes to complete, especially to start) puts you significantly behind anyone that can complete a bonus by turn 2 (Central America, Scandinavia, India, any Africa bonus; to a lesser extent, Indonesia and East China).Even so, a win is possible wherever you start simply because, once you get used to it/figure it out, the AI's predictability can be used against it.

ya, if you want to watch the AI in action, just create a game with "no fog" and a couple of AI opponents.

If Kszysiek doesn't knock off his Napoleon impersonation in the Imperium Romanum tourney, I'm going to start fishing the hell out of him with asinine questions.

"Hey K, my troops are Syrian, and gray's troops are Pontic. Everyone knows the Pontics were #######, so why did my 4 vs 6 attack fail?"

What's up guys? I've been on board with WL since July (thanks to this thread) but just now posting in here for the first time. I always see the FBG in the game. I'm registered on there simply as Zed, in case you see me (I think there is one other Zed also).
