New to IDP and Dynasty - LB Question (1 Viewer)

deadstick

Footballguy
12 team dynasty with contracts league (also have RFA and UFA similar to Zealots leagues where you bid on RFAs auction style, blind on UFAs). We also have 5 spots on a Rookie Taxi Squad that we can put rookies on for 1 season and then sign to contracts. Roster limit during season is 35, contract years are 75. We are currently doing the RFA auction now.

My LB roster is (contract years in parenthesis):

Antonio Pierce (2)

Eric Barton (1)

Pisa Tinoisamoa (1)

Courtney Watson (1)

Jamie Sharper (RFA)

Tedy Bruschi (RFA)

Barrett Ruud (RTS)

Lance Mitchell (RTS)

We have flex lineups, but it's pretty much standard to start 3 LBs. Besides Pierce, my LBs are not too great, but given it's a contract league I don't want to waste contracts on Ruud or Mitchell unless they'll be starting late this year at the latest and be decent starters. We don't have an enourmous amount of contracts, so I'd only be able to give these guys a couple years at the MOST.

We only started with $200 and get $50 per year. Since my team is good (besides the LBs) I'm trying not to spend too much this year in RFA since next year's crop looks much better (this is the 2nd year and there are a lot of studs that were signed to 2-year contracts in the original year).

Available RFAs and their current bid - note that all of my RFAs above are also available for other teams to bid on, if no bids then I get to sign them again without paying anything:

Kirk Morrison: $8 (me)

Marcus Washington: $8

Karlso Dansby: $15

Ben Taylor: $1 (me)

Gary Brackett: $9

Lemar Marshall: sold for $2

Others not yet bid upon: Chaun Thompson, Al Wilson, Daryl Smith, David Thornton, Teddy Lehman, Boss Bailey, etc...

UFAs (blind bid later) include Takeo Spikes, Larry Foote, Bradie James, Tommy Polley, Nick Greisen, etc....

My plan right now is to sign either Kirk Morrison, Marcus Washington or Karlso Dansby to a long term (3-4 year) contract and then a cheap backup which would give me the following as starting LBs:

Pierce

new guy

Barton

Backups: new guy, Watson, Ruud or Mitchell??, re-sign Sharper to 1-year contract if noone bids on him.

Does this seem to make sense? - I'm new to IDP and Dynasty and my big weaknesses on this team are LB and WR (I've addressed WR somewhat already signing Antonio Bryant and close to signing Rod Smith to go with Reggie Wayne, Ashley Lelie, Laveranues Coles and also trying to trade for Reggie Brown).

Thanks,

I'd go after Chaun Thompson.

I think he's got potential.

I think Romeo will increase the talent on the DL and it will create most opportunities for sacks and tackles.

I think Ruud is going to be a player. With Tampa's salary cap issues, I can see Ruud taking over for Quarles. Once he hits the field on a full-time basis he should be very productive. If it was me, I would sign Ruud, Mitchell is too risky.

Thompson could move inside if Cleveland can get some OLB help in the draft. He would obviously have more upside being an ILB. He definatley has potential.

Morrison would be a nice pickup. Even though Oakland has a new Head Coach, the DC remains the same.

I would steer clear of Jamie Sharper.

Fincher (New Orleans) may be a guy to look for if you can get him cheap. He was a tackling machine at U.Conn, and is instinctive. With a new coacing staff in New Orleans, its anyone's guess who starts at LB next year. I think Fincher will have a good shot at the "mike" or "will", and could be insurance for Watson.

I agreee - I feel he can be had cheap and will be a star for the Browns. I also like the potential of Ruud - I'm just not sure if it will be this year or not that he really gets his chance. My 2 cents

Thanks guys, I had to pay a bit for Morrison, but got Thompson cheap. I feel a lot better sitting like this (start 3 - contract years in parenthesis, ? mean that I added as RFAs or they were on my Rookie Squad and I can determine my own contracts before the season starts):Kirk Morrison (4?)

Antonio Pierce (2)

Eric Barton (1)

Chaun Thompson (4?)

Barrett Ruud (3?)

Pisa Tinoisamoa (1)

Courtney Watson (1)

Thanks again for the replies,
