It just exposes the hypocrisy of those who claim to support the principles of the Constitution.

Luckily most healthcare workers have higher ethical standards, so this rule shouldn't end up costing lives.

I have worked in healthcare for over 20 years and not once has this topic ever been an issue.     

The saddest part for most women is having a baby at a Catholic hospital via a C-Section and wanting her tubes tied only to be told no due to the hospital stating a religious objection.  The doctor could complete the sterilization in less than 30 minutes with the woman already having a surgical opening.   But, instead, that same woman will have to heal from her C-section and go to another hospital to have another surgery...plus all the additional costs.

Um, these tube ties are scheduled before the actual day of birth, right?

I meant everyone I know that had this done had it scheduled weeks before actually giving birth. So they should know that that hospital doesn't do that, right?

Well if your insurance doesn't cover a hospital that does a tubal you are screwed.   A lot of people when getting insurance do not think "Does my insurance cover hospitals out of network that would allow me to get a tubal after my c section"  

It happens a lot.   Most OB GYN docs have privileges at multiple hospitals but if the patient's insurance doesn't cover "X" hospital that allows TUBALS after a C-Section they are out of luck.  Or, they must pay out of pocket at another facility.  

Thus,   one procedure = the birth at one hospital, second procedure the tubal at another hospital.

Double the surgery cost

Double the anesthesia cost

Double the surgeon cost

Double the risk of having another procedure
