Newby needs help on a trade please (1 Viewer)

Need some trade advice - I'm new to Dynasty and need some help. 12 team PPR league. I have two trade options in front of me - don't know which is better and if either one is  good one. Player offering the trade seems to really want Malcolm Mitchell.

Trade Option 1

  • Being offered Jamaal Charles, Kirk Cousins, Tim Hightower, Martellus Bennett, 2017 2.08 pick
  • I give Smallwood, Malcolm Mitchell, Jordan Reed
Trade Option 2;

  • Being offered Cousins, Hightower
  • I give Smallwood, Mitchell
I am leaning toward a counter to Trade 2 swapping out Bennett for Hightower thinking Cousins gives me depth at QB and I can probably afford to Mitchell and Smallwood??? Need some advice Please!

My basic team is (not including kickers, IDP, and some drops I need to make)

 Tom Brady

 Kaepernick

 Cardale Jones

 McCoy

 Miller

 Ingram

 Chris Thompson

 W Smallwood

 Brandin Cooks

 Larry Fitzgerald

 Tyler Lockett

 DeSean Jackson

 Kenny Britt

 Malcolm Mitchell

 Quincy Enunwa

 Green-Beckham

 Leonte Carroo

 Robert Woods

 Paul Richardson

 Jordan Reed

 Stephen Anderson

 Lance Kendricks

 Sefarian-Jenkins

I wouldn't do either. None of the players are great, but Mitchell might be the most valuable. In a 12 team league QB's values are very low. I would keep Bennett with Gronk's injury issues he could be big.  But if you really want Cousins, losing Hightower isn't a big deal and I don't think Mitchell or smallwood are game changers.

Reed may be the most valuable piece in the equation (if TE mandatory) - I wouldn't over-pay to get a back-up to Brady in a 12-team league.

As Ratbone mentioned - losing Mitchell or Smallwood won't hurt you over the long-haul...

Can you tell us his roster?  I think Mitchell plus Smallwood for Cousins is fine as it is.... but Hightower is waiver wire fodder.  Handcuffs are not a good dynasty strategy IMO.

Yeah - not sure why his roster matters but maybe it does. He has

QB: Brees, Carr, Cousins, RGIII, Hackenberg

RB: Jamaal Charles, Dixon, Tyler Ervin, Hightower, J. Hill, Dion Lewis, Tre Mason

WR: Keenan Allen, Beasley, Amari Cooper, Mike Evans, Demaryius Thomas, Demarcus Robinson

TE: Z. Miller, Bennett, Adams, Higbee, Burton, Gresham

By the way, he has picks 1.09, 2.08, 4.05, 5.05, 5.12, 6.05, 6.12

I have picks 1.05, 2.05, 3.05, 5.11

Not sure that it matters who he has from the perspective that I cannot in a material way affect his lineup, but it does provide insight as to who else I might ask for.

I guess where I'm at now is that unless I can get him to agree to something major like a trade along the lines of Cooks + Mitchell + 2.05 for Mike Evans or maybe Cooks + Mitchell for Cooper then anything less than that sits on my bench and therefore not likely to change anything in the near term.

Trading Mitchell for a pick makes no sense - Mitchell is a rookie - just got drafted - what is the chance I am able to draft somebody that comes on with success - the ratio of failures to successes says this outcome is not bank.

I would like to deal off Mitchell as some of his attractiveness is the recency - for a rookie he had a heck of a run the last 8 games of the year so I might be getting more value now than I will in the future. One possibility is Gronk comes back, Brady has a lot of different targets to choose from, and Mitchell is not so special anymore. Mitchell will probably still pick up more targets next year as the first half of this year was not much for him and I can see him going to maybe 200 - 225 PPR points next year? Don't know if I get better value then or not- guess that is why I'm seeking input. Thanks all.

I would play off the 2nd offer as you have mentioned.  I would even just do Cousins for Mitchell/Smallwood but I might counter with someone better than Hightower.  Maybe take a flyer and with Charles being cut he might include him.  Doubtful but you never know.  Either way I would give up Mitchell & Smallwood to get Cousins.

I wouldn't be looking at either of the initial trades because even though Brady is getting old I wouldn't want to invest in Cousins to sit on the bench.  If I were trading with this other team I would be looking at any of Keenan Allen, Amari Cooper, Mike Evans , Demaryius Thomas, 1.05 or 2.05.  Otherwise I would keep the two young assets and hope they pan out.  Investing in Cousins when you have Brady seems wasteful.

I agree on the surface but Brady will be 40 and there isn't much history of 40+ Qb's sustaining production.  One hit and a cascade of injuries start.  I don't think the assets he is giving up is much value but I also like Cousins as a fantasy QB.

I'm a Cousins fan too and I really don't hate that trade.  The more I think about it the part I like is it also affords the owner to carry less baggage at QB and load up on other spots.  I mean you could just roster Brady and Cousins.  Maybe Kaepernick if you think he lands a starting role which is very possible.  I would cut bait on Cardale Jones if I added Cousins and trade him for anything or drop him.  QB just isn't valuable enough in a start 1 league to carry a guy like that who may never develop.  Just carry an extra RB or WR prospect.  My biggest issue is how bad do you need Cousins given the fact that this team is old and doesn't have many young prospects on the bench at this time?  I guess doing the trade allows you to check QB off the needs list for a handful of seasons so you can spend all your picks in other areas unless there is QB value screaming at you.

The more I think about things the more I think I might just do option 2.  You are getting the best player in the deal so I don't think you are out much unless Cousins becomes terrible.  Even if you flipped Cousins later you can recover your present value.  Your only risk you are taking is if Mitchell or Smallwood happens to evolve into a top notch player.  Each could but I don't think it's very likely.  They are both two decent prospects.

I wouldn't give up Jordan Reed.  Concerned with the concussion history but when healthy he is very good.  Boils down to Mitchell vs Cousins for me.  Take the other guys out of it - prefer Smallwood to Hightower on age alone.

While Cousins is a nice add you don't NEED Cousins with Brady.   Comes down to how much you like Mitchell and how you feel about the rest of your WRs.

Cooks and Jackson are OK; Fitz is long in the tooth. Lockett is coming off a nasty injury.  I like Enunwa if the Jets can get their act together.  I wouldn't want to depend on Britt, DGB, Caroo, or Richardson.  Let's see where Woods end up.  You also have the 1.05 which could land you a blue chip WR prospect.

I do like the idea of Cooks/Mitchell for Evans or Cooper.  Offer Cooks/Mitchell/Smallwood for Cooper/Cousins/6.05.   He has Brees and Carr and really likes Mitchell?
