Bill Cowher started off his press conference as usual with the injury report. Two players are out: LB James Harrison and WR/PK Willie Reid and two players are questionable: LB Clark Haggans and C Jeff Hartings. There was also a handful of players listed as probable.
Cowher then made a statement that he would not answer questions regarding lineup changes. He said that any lineup changes will be handled this week in practice and would not be discussed with the media.
Since he never has said this before it seems likely that there WILL be changes. I think the most likely change is to start CB Bryant McFadden over Deshea Townsend. McFadden is taller, faster and more physical and Townsend has been outjumped for at least 3 or 4 TDs this season.
Another likely candidate to lose his starting job is WR Cedric Wilson. Rookie Santonio Holmes has been splitting time with Wilson at split end position and has looked pretty good at receiver (though awful as a return man). Wilson will likely be the punt returner until Reid gets healthy and Ike Taylor will return kicks with Najeh Davenport.
There could be other changes as well but I think most of those will occur on special teams. Cowher said that the team is out of sync and that some players may be tentative because they're afraid to make a mistake while others may be trying to do too much. Cowher said that everyone seems to have a theory as to why the team is 2-6 but it really comes down to turnovers.
That's about it...
