Next batch of Mock Drafts (1 Viewer)

With all that has happened in free agency in the last few days, I'd say there is a good amount of impact on the NFL Draft.

I'm figuring we'll see a LOT of mock drafts in the next few days that will be very different from the ones we've seen up until now.

I don't really remember a FA period that changed this around this much, do you?

I did a first day mock with impressions and changes from the combine and some pro days. I was ready to post it yesterday with 42 changes. Now that's not enough.

This is exactly why I don't even bother starting on my projections for next season. Some people are already creating rough projections and IMO it's just a waste of time.

I don't know that I agree with this. I think doing this can help you get into a "mindset" whereas you're mentally categorizing players and team needs and where you know where the players fall can change quickly.

I wish Brees would sign with New Orleans. It would make it really interesting again.

Some questions I have after the last couple of days:

1) If Brees signs with NO, Do they take D'Brickashaw Ferguson at #2? I would. Bookends of Furguson and Jamaal Brown for the next 4+ years would look nice.

2) Regarding Haloti Ngata

a) Since the Browns signed Ted Washington to a two year deal, do they consider him the starter at NT fo the entire year?

b) The Bills signed Larry Triplett. Do they look to other areas other than DT now?

3) The Rams had two areas of big need, D-back and Linebacker. They shored that up with Chavous and Witherspoon. Now do they go for the killer blow with another CB/LB such as Jimmy Williams or Chad Greenway/Bobby Carpenter? Makes their defense much more respectable. Especially if they play Chavous at free rather than strong.

4) If NO gets Brees and Brick, barring trade, Vince Young looks to be a Raider.

There are others. But this is a start.

If the hope is to make accurate projections before the combine and free agency, then yes, waste of time. If the hope is to discuss team needs and rookie prospects in order to be better informed, I cannot think of a better way to get the conversation rolling and organized.

I think it was Clayton that mentioned that one of the issues between Brees and NO is that NO would not commit to decline taking a QB in the first round of the draft.

They can't make that commitment since laying their cards on the table like that weakens some leverage they may have with teams trying to trade up.But it's understandable why he'd want that as I doubt he'd want to relive a Philip Rivers (now Matt Leinart) looking over his shoulder part Deux.

I'll agree that it's a great way to start conversations, but otherwise it's a great big waste of time. NFL GM's don't think about fantasy football like you or I do.For example, LenDale White was a "lock" for Arizona Saturday night. How many mocks had the Ravens and Vikings taking an RB in the 1st?

Mocks are fun, but they are pure fantasy-geek speculation. :nerd: Find me a mock draft from February or March that looks anything like what the actual NFL draft turned out like, and I'm sending you a case of beer.

Looking at my newest mock (which I'll have out by the end of the week loaded up with all the goods), the moves only changed two picks.

You need to factor in the probability of offseason acquisitions when you do a mock.

That's why the whole "first round perceived biggest need" bias is always a problem. Certainly it's less prevelant in the 2 and 3 round mocks though, since people begin to understand that there is beyond the first round available to a team in their offseason.

FYI if NO signs Brees, which I don't think will happen since Miami has a much better appeal (city and team and coach and GM), I'd definitely pencil in D'Brickashaw Ferguson at #2.

The sad thing is that it really shouldn't impact the draft all that much... I am a firm believer in BPA in almost all situations.

The Bills only have 1 starting DT and that's Triplett. They're bringing in Ryan Pickett today so we'll see how that goes. They need at least 1 more quality DT. I love Ngata but if they can sign Pickett I'd prefer that. They could then look towards other positions in the draft like Justice at OT or Huff at SS. But if they can't get Pickett or maybe Rocky Bernard, then I could definitely see them going with Ngata.

I agree in general but...The difference is that to teams at the top of the draft, with many areas to fill, a LOT of players fit the BPA mold. As the first round goes on, however, BPA takes on much more meaning and is more strictly defined.

Round 3 and above, I think BPA is the best philosophy, even if it doesn't appear to be an area of need for the team.

Are the Bills still a 4-3?

The Lions, already bad in the secondary, lost starter Andre Goodman to the Dolphins.

Add that to the fact that Dre Bly has seen his better days, doesn't this mean that the Lions almost HAVE to pick someone like Jimmy Williams/Tye Hill? Even though they need a lot of help on the o-line?

I feel bad for Lions fans. That team isn't even close.

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that they are. From everything I've heard they're implementing the Cover 2. And if they're going to the 3-4 they'd better find another LBer in a hurry...

The Cardinals signed Milford Brown and Elton Brown started to emerge at the end of last year.

Do they start the two Browns at guard or do they move Leonard Davis to guard and draft someone like Winston Justice, if he's still available.

Or do they feel like they've solved their offensive line problems (thus, fooling themseleves) and focus on defense, where someone like Tamba Hali would be about a million percent improvement on the line. Or Michael Huff to replace "Father Time" Robert Griffith?

The Cardinals are going to put "the two Browns" at guards. those two guys combined for almost 700lbs, a full 100 more than last year's backup tackles...err .... starting guards.Chike Okeafor and Bertrand Berry are very solid DEs. They won't draft Hali.

It will be on BPA.

1) Reggie Bush

2) Matt Leinart

3) Mario Williams

4) AJ Hawk

5) Jay Cutler

6) Vernon Davis

7) Vince Young

8) Michael Huff

9) Jimmy Williams

10) Haloti Ngata

That's probably how their first round draft board looks.

Stupid NFL.com and their "Depth Charts". I totally forgot about Berry and they don't even have him listed. You're right. Hali will not be the pick.

FWIW, I think it will be a d-back.

Anyone have a better site for depth charts? One for free, that is?
