I get if you are up 3 going for it. 3 more points doesn't do much. But up by 1, 2, 3, 4 TDs ... those 3 points are like another TD. Not mathemtically, but it's another score required by the other team.

Yeah I think that in that situation, you have way fewer outs to win the game. In the earlier situation, there were plenty of paths that could happen and you still had the lead and could make the niners have to really execute to win. Giving them the ball back in this situation lets them dictate a lot of the remaining game.

Really easy for those of us who thought he should kick to say we are right but hell if I know - all I know is what I said before.
