NFC Notebook (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
Just a random notebook of the teams right now...I might do the AFC later too.

NFC West:

Arizona: Played a very good Seattle team. Fitz and Boldin were very human in this game. Edge did rack up about 100 yds and had 7 receptions…but no TD, and now 2 weeks in a rown is hovering around 3 ypc…that’s gonna be rough…I still think you look at possibly trading this guy while he is still deemed a “1st round” top tier RB by many in your league.

Seattle: Hasselbeck and Shaun continue to have unimpressive stats. Shaun was a #1 pick in some drafts…he isn’t coming close to that yet. He did fine today with about 100 yds and a TD but so far he is way off the pace from a year ago. DJax had a big game this week…it will take some time before Branch makes an impact with this team and eats to any if at all of DJax production. Did I mention Seattle’s defense is good.

San Fran: Alex Smith against an early season improved defense went out and managed the game, made a big play, and helped the Niners win. He is averaging about 250 a game with a TD…that ain’t bad as a spot play or QB2…this guy has really made some improvements.

I’m not going to pimp Gore more than he has already…no reason he will not make a strong run for 2,000 total yds and probably 12-15 TDs for the season the way he is playing. Pretty good stats for a guy we all passed on at least once in the drafts. And Antonio Bryant has quickly emerged as well…last week 4/114, this week it’s 4/131/1…the guy is being counted on for big plays. They are throwing the ball downfield which is another reason I am liking Alex Smith. Norv Turner is an offensive genius, despite the season he spent in Oakland. I love the 9ers right now as they are fun to watch, and I still maintain their defense is not that good and they will have to play from behind most weeks.

St. Louis: Big Alert to T.Holt owners out there. He has posted decent numbers 2 weeks in a row…however the Rams offense in general is not very good. And the days of Holt maybe having 6/130/2…anything like that seems remote right now. Bulger’s avg per attempt has gotta be around 6 or under and that’s awful. 34 attempts last week and this week…avg of about 200 yds each week…that’s 3,200 for the season…that’s about what the Falcons will throw for total…and they are a running football team. I am a very concerned Holt owner and I am going to start shopping him. SJax is looking good for owners so far…nothing nuclear here but solid.

NFC South

Carolina: DeShaun is on thin ice at this point. Hopefully you got DeAngelo to go with him…but right now it’s going to be the dreaded RBBC for right now. Till Steve Smith gets back…and even when he does it will take a few games for him to get back all the way…till he does that, this offense is almost off limits. None of the WR will be dependable either. Delhomme is not better right now than some round 16 QBs you drafted…terrible that they gave that game away today…this loss to the Vikes…this game will cost them at the end of the season, big time.

Tampa Bay: “Cadillac” is a candidate for 1st round bust right now…he is costing his owners a lot of points in their rosters every week. Galloway did what he usually does after having a poor outing. Someone cut him this week in a league I play in…made a nice edition as my WR5…and he will be moved up into my starting line up very soon.

What else can you say about the Bucs? Simms had 300 yds but no TDs…I still think Gruden will wheel Simms out for the foreseeable future…the rookie from Toledo is just not ready.

Atlanta: W.Dunn is on pace for 2,000 yds rushing and 0 TDs…in FF that would be equal to say 1,400 yds and 10 TDs to sort of put it in perspective…I don’t see norwood taking his job at all…simply allows Dunn to keep working his magic…maybe he is a late bloomer like Tiki and pours it on this year. Vick! Vick! Vick! If his rushing yds count in your league like they do in mine, he was as good or better today than a lot of 300 yd passers. 240 passing, 175 rushing in 2 weeks and 4 TDs. WR will remain pretty spotty but Vick and Dunn are rewarding their owners.

New Orleans: How can you not be happy for the Saints? Reggie Bush has been fun to watch but he is not replacing McAllister in the running game all together. In fact Bush seems to be designed to see an awful lot of receptions…15 in 2 weeks…on pace for 120 this season. Deuce had 47 rush and 2 TDs this week, 90 yds last week…he is making a good RB2 as is Bush in PPR leagues where he rocks in the flex positions.

Joe Horn had a better game this week but Colston continues to sparkle in his rookie year. In redrafts I would sell Colston while you can…he is not option #1…that is probably Bush and then it’s Joe Horn…in a dynasty league he’s gold…in a redraft he’s fool’s gold. NO has played a couple of nobodys…this streak Colston has going will not continue.

NFC North

Chicago: Who would have thought we would be talking about Rex Grossman throwing 4 TDs in a game…I’m speechless. The running game is the weakness right now but I expect that to change. If this offense can muster 20 points a game with little effort…lookout! Could be a Super Bowl team brewing here, seriously. I know it was just Detroit and Green Bay.

Minnesota: Smoke and mirrors baby. They have won a couple of games they could have lost. I don’t think the passin game is anything you want to wheel out with regularity. The commitment to Chester Taylor and the run however is something that FF owners like and should.

Detroit: 2 very tough games to start the season. I still think Kevin Jones is major value moving forward for the next 4-5 weeks. They are a long way away from being anything like the Rams of old.

Green Bay: Will get blown out by quality teams…will hang in there with mediocre to bad teams and produce decent numbers. Favre and Driver are still value plays.

NFC East

Philly: On offense what’s not to like? McNabb is really on point right now…too bad they didn’t play a little harder in the 2nd half this week and go for the throat…I doubt they make that mistake again this season…Look for McNabb to keep producing and possibly put in a record breaking year at QB…5,000 yds and 35+TDs are not out of the question for him. Stallworth and LJ Smith are going tob e studs for owners this season…just can’t gush over the Philly offense enough right now. They are not a SB team but they are a fun team to watch right now.

NY Giants: Another fun team to have players from on your roster. Amani Toomer…is he the Reggie Wayne/TJ Housh for the Giants now? Manning spreads it all around and since the Giants defense is average at best, they are gonna have to score score score.

Dallas: Bye week…TO is out 2-4…people griping about JJ give me a break. He is getting about 20 carries a game…it’s not his fault the Cowboys can’t run block worth a spit. I look for more and more from the passing game. Trade for Bledsoe, then grab Romo off the WW…should have a good starting QB the rest of the season.

Washington: Brunell has perfected the following play/scenario.

It’s 3rd down and 5…he drops back, WRs are covered, he quickly moves to one side of the field…cutting down the area he can put the ball by ¾..suddenly realizes that this will not work, and he throws the ball at the line of scrimmage out of bounds and jogs to the sidelines to catch a breather…folks stick a fork in Brunell, he’s awful. He was a couple of seasons ago but they masked him somehow in Washington…he now is completely exposed in Al Saunders offense…dagummitt, if you can’t throw for the 1st down then tuck it under and run you SOB!

Not a Skinsfan or Brunell owner, but he has had a primetime game 2 weeks ina row and I am sick of watching him.

1.i just learned that paul hackett is the offensive coordinator for the bucs.had i known this, and being a jets fan, it is very possible i would not have taken cadillac williams.
Other coordinators you can add to this "draft with caution" list: Kevin Kilbride; Jimmy Raye.
