***NFCC - Washington 14-5 at Philadelphia 16-3***(-6, 47.5) 3:00 (1 Viewer)

Stick a gun to my head tonight and I predict a Washington win. But honestly I expect this to be an awesome game that could go either way.

Looking forward to this game. Saquon is so special — gotta believe he is the difference maker yet again. Dude is on a mission.
He’s so awesome. I can’t imagine how anyone can hate on that guy. But same thing with Daniels.
Absolutely. Big fan of both — but Saquon had to play for the Giants and nepo baby John Mara. He deserves this after suffering for so long.

-4.5 is too much. This game is a coin flip. This is not the same Commanders team we beat. It’s not even the same team that beat us with Jalen out.

Yeah, I have really tough feel for the game. I could see it go so many different ways, will be a fun week of breaking down the game. AJ Brown enjoys teeing off against the Commanders DBs so I wonder if it will be a bit of an AJ Brown game, if he is healthy

Brown looked pretty disinterested today. Not sure what's going on there, but it looked like his effort was reduced today.

I've been waiting for this one. Things have just felt off since that Sunday in December. Yea we're in the NFCC game but there's just been this weird cosmic force willing this rematch to happen. I want to bury the skins. I'm glad they're playing so well. No excuses for either team this time. The better team will win and go to the Super Bowl.

I have a feel for this game. I'm going to wait to see what the injury report says for who on the Eagles is not going to be playing or 100% before I give a score prediction, but I think the line is a little low (and has already moved a point from opening).

The key to this games is turnovers. Something the Eagles, just don't do. Washington needs to force multiple on Sunday to win because I see the same issues for WAS that I saw for the LAR. They can't stop the run. Even in their win against DET, they couldn't stop the run. But the Lions employed a game plan to throw the ball 40 times and run it 20 even when it was obvious to everyone watching that they could have run the ball at will. At one point, Gibbs had a 10 ypc average and ended at 7.5 for 14 carries. The Lions actually had a higher yards average running than throwing (8.7 v. 7.8). That won't be the case for Philly, they're going to go down running the ball, it's what they do. When you throw the ball, you increase the risk of turnovers. The Lions turnovers were killer and if they would have just run the ball, they win that game. Both times the Eagles faced the Commanders they ran it 40 times. The Commanders know what's coming on Sunday, but I don't think they have the horses to stop it. Even when the Rams loaded the box, they couldn't stop the run, you see what happens once the runner gets by the load and is one on one with the secondary tacklers. The NFL is all about matchups, and the Eagles matchup well against the Commanders.

I think AJ’s knee is worse than he or the team is letting on and I think it’s affecting his play.

I’m worried that Quinyon will miss time. Rodgers is a serious downgrade and Washington will target him.

Jalen’s knee bending backward looked really bad. I get it that he remained in the game but we’ve all hyperextended our knee playing sports. The adrenaline allows you to play on it but then you get up the next day and it’s the size of a grapefruit. If he can’t play we’re toast. If he can’t run we’re toast.

I don't think the Commanders match up all that well. Avoid turnovers and play to their norm and Eagles should win. That said, Daniels is special and the Commanders seem to be playing their best ball of the year. If the game stays close going into the fourth quarter I won't be feeling so great about hanging on. It wouldn't be a shocking upset by any means.
I don't see Eagles winning by 3 or 6. They either win by 14+ or lose.

Injuries have me worried as well but I’d be surprised if Jalen doesn’t play. I’m sure he will play through the injury which puts us at a major disadvantage when there’s no risk he runs it but Saquon is a beast who can take over any game. Without him we are toast but dude is different, can’t rule us out with him back there.

Daniels is having a heck of a run this year, no one can solve him it seems. It’s similar to RG3 rookie year but numbers are even better.

How many points are we expecting the Commanders to score on Sunday? I would caution, don't let the game they played against DET influence you, the Lions defense was a mash unit.

If Mitchell is out I’d bank on somewhere in the 20’s.

Some trends for the NFFCG:

Since 1970, home teams are 36-18 SU. In the last 10 years, 8-2 SU. Favorites are 28-25-1 ATS.

Home favorites of less than 7 points are 17-5 SU, 15-7 ATS (in the last 22 tries).

Intra-division games, the favorite is 5-1 SU, 3-3 ATS.

#2 seeds hosting are 4-7 SU, 4-6-1 ATS.

Seed #5-7 are 4-10 SU, 6-8 ATS.

When the line moves during the week, the team the bettors are picking are 18-7 ATS. So pay attention to how the line moves.

So the Eagles will score as many points as the Packers this week?

For the time being, I'm operating under the assumption that Hurts is banged up, but essentially fine. Like, I don't think he'll be limited to staying in the pocket or not running.

In that case, I think the Eagles defense does a much better job than the depleted Lions defense did. I think the Eagles consistently get pressure rushing 4. Cosmi being out is a gigantic loss, as he saw mostly Carter in the prior meetings. It sounds like Mitchell should also be good to go, with should help, though I think Rodgers is a capable replacement. I think Washington struggles to run the ball and Daniels (who I think the world of, he's already a top-5 QB) needs to play basically perfectly. Against this D, I think that's almost an impossible ask.

For the Eagles, I think Washington will struggle to stop the Eagles offense. If Philly needs to pass, I don't see Lattimore and co. being able to contain AJ Brown (who while quiet of late, has owned Washington) and DeVonta. I also think Washington's front 4 gets pushed around. This sets up to be another monster Barkley game. An old school run the ball, play defense, and maybe a couple big plays off PA.

I think its been a wonderful season for Washington, and going forward, they are a scary team. This might be their worst team over the next 2-3 year stretch, given their youth/cap space. But I think this is a rough matchup, and I think they are greatly outclassed talent wise other than QB.

I'm taking Washington and the over in this one
I don't care what the weather will be
Eagles have an edge I think but it should be close
Eagles escaped at home last week
Commanders were impressive on the road
Jayden will keep his team in the game
I'd like to see him win
But...

Philadelphia Eagles- 30
Washington Commanders- 27

This is why I'm waiting for my game prediction, I want to see what the injury report looks like as the week progresses. If it's evident early that Hurts can't run, WAS will go to the gameplan they had in the Eagles loss to them in week 16 where they sold out on Barkley and dared Pickett to run. That slowed Barkley down and the Eagles couldn't sustain drives, too many 3, 4, 5 play drives taking no time off the clock.

Eagles should roll if Jalen is healthy but really hoping the Commanders continue to shock the world. No offense, but most likable team left to my biases by a lot.

Then stopped.

I respect what Washington has done this year, a lot. Daniels is the real deal and the capper is his supernatural calm in big moments. He has winning mojo.

That said, I think the rest of the team isn’t quite there, yet. They are definitely capable of beating PHI, but they’re gonna need to play an almost perfect game and hope Philly makes mistakes.

WAS beat DET in part because of injuries. But definitely because of mistakes by DET. 5 turnovers is deadly- you don’t win that game, unless, ironically, you’re WAS playing Philly with a backup QB. 😂

The thing Philly has been doing best since the bye is protect the football and cause turnovers. Jayden has thrown 3 INTs vs the Eagles this year. And if Jalen has any mobility at all, WAS won’t be able to stack the box and shut down the run. Gibbs was annihilating that run D in the game Saturday. Saquon will get his on Sunday.

Here is what I wonder - can the Eagles offense be stopped? Eagles fans were mostly saying that the only chance the Rams had to win was if they won the turnover battle by like 2 or 3. The Rams actually ended up turning the ball over more and still was in position to win that game. Barkley doesn't seem capable of being stopped over the course of 60 minutes. However, is the rest of the offense good enough against 2 of the 3 remaining teams? I think they're good enough because of how strong the defense is. But the game yesterday was a little eye opening as I was expecting more domination. Of course yesterday might have been a little skewed because of Hurts's injury and the weather. Also I know they were moving the ball and then Hurts kept taking boneheaded sacks. But that's not a limitation that just disappears magically at this point of the season.

I bet on the Eagles up to now but I'm hesitant to bet them this week.

You really gonna let Sirianni surprise you like that, huh?
I mean in both games we rushed for 40/228 and then 39/211 with mainly the backup QB. I don't expect that to change at all.

Just like we ran for a bunch on the Rams the first time, I didn't expect us to NOT run against them.

On the season the Rams were bad, but not awfully terrible, but still ranked 22nd.

The Commanders are 30th against the run.

So yeah, I don't expect any surprises as to what we will try to do and most likely accomplish what we want to do, with at least regards to the running game.

Yeah. You can try to scheme against it, but that doesn't make your guys good tacklers all of a sudden.

Aaron Schatz:

Getting a number of complaints from Commanders fans that their run defense has improved in the second half of the season.

This is true.

From Week 1-9, it ranked 26th.
From Week 10-18, it ranked 19th.
