NFL Coach of the Year (1 Viewer)

Nemesis

Before this weekend, I would have thought the following names could win:

AFC

Bill Belichick - Team started slow, then they traded Moss. Defense was a liability, but has really started to gel.

Jack Del Rio - IF Jax had come out strong vs Indy and the rest of their schedule, nobody at the beginning of the year would have predicted this team to make the playoffs and thought they were going to have a lame duck season.

NFC

Mike Smith - Consistent, balanced attack......not sexy, but gets the job done with few mistakes.

Raheem Morris - Almost same story as Jax.........nobody had them with a winning record.......most had them vying for a top draft pick. Team has cooled off recently with multiple defensive injuries. Team might be hitting a wall.

But, after week 15.........I only see it as a Belichick vs Mike Smith race.........

Still some football to play, but I think it's Mike Smith's to lose at this point.

Not that he'll win but Andy Reid deserves some consideration since we got rid of our franchsie QB and were expected to go 8-8 or 9-7 at best this year. He's made mistakes during the games but overall, he's managed Vick very well.

They won't win, and maybe don't truly deserve it, but the immense turnarounds led by Todd Haley (Chiefs) and Tom Cable (Oakland) are truly impressive!

He won't win but the job Tomlin doing is incredible. They have a good chance to take the #2 seed in the AFC despite massive injuries to both sides of the ball and dealing with all the ramifications of the Roethlisberger suspension.

Tom Cable.

Oakland is 7-7, and by all rights, should be 8-6 but Janickowski missed a 32 yard field goal at the end of the game against aZ (after missing 3 others earlier). Plus, they are undefeated in the AFC west. Nobody was projecting Oakland to be worth a damm this year and with the tons of injuries to the WR's and QB's all year long, Cable has done a great job.

Cable has done a solid job but I know a lot people who thought the Raiders had good chance to be a .500 or 9-7 type team and the main reason for this is the terrible state of the division. Than when you see that their record is pretty poor outside the division I don't see the Raiders as much of a surprise.

The terrible state of the AFC West? There are 3 divisions in the NFL with 3 teams at .500 or better and the AFC West is one of them. Not the best division in football but definitely above average. Just because everyone said it was crappy preseason doesn't mean it is crappy.

Andy Reid should win this thing hands down. Having his team where it is on what was supposed to be a transition year is amazing. And, I know most teams are in the same boat, but they've had a lot of injuries on both sides of the ball.

Yes, because Vick has had very little to do with their run of late. Reid just knows how to manage him so well. Yeah, Vick looks better than he did in ATL and Reid has something to do with that, but when he does stuff like yesterday that's not on coaching.

Smith has the Falcons playing low turnover, low penalty, balanced football and they are going to be the #1 seed.

Bellichick has the Pats playing well. Their defense is extremely young and showing improvement down the stretch.

It's between just those two and Smith will win it since Bellichick has been there done that..

Todd Haley
I think he's most likely too. The AP likes to spread the award around, particularly when there are other deserving candidates, and Belichek, Smith, and Reid have all won it before. So, I think a newcomer like Haley will get a lot of votes.

Raheem is probably the lowest paid coach with the lowest paid coaching staff. He has a 2nd year GM, who is probably one of the lowest paid GM's. The team has one of the lowest combined salaries and wasn't really much of a player at all in free agency the last 2 years. Besides having Tanard suspended early in the season and losing it's top 2 draft picks it is also starting a bunch of rookies and no name guys. Raheem Morris is essentially racing a go-kart in the Indy 500 and still in the race.

The AFC West is crappy and they drew the only crappier division in the NFL which was the NFC West. Teams in these two divisions were gifted with incredibly easy schedules because they got to play each other. Outside of division play not a single team in the AFC West beat a team with a record better than 8-6. This is also why Haley should not a coach of the year candidate. Chiefs only beat two teams with winning records. I don't what world you are living in were this is not considered a crappy division.

Mike Smith or Andy Reid. One of these two coaches is gonna end up in the superbowl. I'm pulling for Smith as I think he's done more with less. Either way both of these two NFC teams stand a very good chance of winning the superbowl regardless of which team represents the AFC in the big game.

They probably won't now, but if Tampa still makes it in the playoffs, Raheem Morris is still my pick. This week hurt, but he has that team convinced they are good and they are fighting for W's every single week. I refuse to rule them out until they are eliminated. He is about 90% of the reason why.

If not, I'll jump on the Mike Smith train. Really the entire Atlanta staff. Have you ever seen a team figure out how to use a guy the way Atlanta is involving Roddy White? If you watch an Atlanta game it forces you to question why other teams have so much trouble getting the ball in the hands of their playmakers. He is a great combination of being a good leader and having good game management on Sundays.
