Fun with our friend strength of victory/strength of schedule.

With the whole Giants win but don't quite clinch deal, it's interesting to note that, strictly speaking, EVERY OTHER GAME this week impacts that tiebreaker with the TWO exceptions being Cincinnati-Pittsburgh and Atlanta-Philadelphia.

From nfl.com - this comes into play if GB and the Giants both win

------------------------------------------

**N.Y. Giants clinch strength of victory tiebreaker over Green Bay if:

a) DET loses OR

b) MIN loses OR

c) any two of the following results occur: ARI loss, MIA loss, SF loss, CAR win, HOU win, TB win.

**Packers clinch strength of victory tiebreaker over NY Giants if all of the following occur:

ARI win, DET win, MIA win, MIN win, SF win, CAR loss, HOU loss, TB loss.

-------------------------------------------

Now of course this isn't the full story (the rest of this is my own workup):

If Green Bay and NY Giants end up tied in strength of victory, then tie will be decided by best strength of schedule.

This happens if Detroit and Minnesota win

and 5 out of these 6 occur: ARI win, MIA win, SF win, CAR loss, HOU loss, TB loss

The next tiebreaker in this case would be strength of victory. If this happens, accounting for all the games noted above, the Giants would have a 2-game advantage.

The remaining games that matter from each teams schedule would be as follows:

Giants: Jacksonville, Tennessee, Indiapolis

Packers: Bills, Patriots, Jets

OK SO:

If Tennessee beats New England, THE Giants Clinch the Strength of Schedule Tiebreaker

If New England beats Tenessee and 2 of the following 4 things happen, the Giants clinch the Strength of Schedule tiebreaker: JAX WIN, INDY WIN, BUFF LOSE, JETS LOSE

Green Bay clinches strength of victory only if the following 5 things happen: NE WIN, BUFF WIN, JETS WIN, JAX lose, INDY lose

Amazingly there can still be a tie even after all of this if New England were to win AND (BUFF/JETS/INDY/KC win or BUFF/JETS/JAX/MIA win or BUFF/OAK/KC/MIA win or BALT/JETS/KC/MIA win)

In that case:

7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.

The Giants hold a big advantage here. They have 321 PF, 334 PA. GB has 275 PF and 359 PA. (Currently that gives the Giants ranks of 6 in PF and 9.5 in PA. For Green Bay, the rankings are 10.5 in PF and 12 in PA) Needless to say I'm not going into all that :)

LOL well technically CAR-NO is still relevant with the whole strength of victory thing ;)

LMAO!... Then, let me list the complete week17 schedule for this :lmao: I would think that (from your post) we can stick a fork in the Packers... Giants are in

All these scenarios are fun to come up with, but Green Bay does have to beat da Bears in Chicago FIRST! Without that, the rest doesn't matter. lol

(yeah, I know, "any given Sunday", "anything can happen", "da Bears will be resting players", etc)

Lets see if i got this right.

Denver wins and they are in. If they lose than KC is in.

Homefield is still up for grabs in the AFC as San Diego needs to win to get it, or they need Baltimore to lose.

Baltimore needs to win and San Diego loses and they get homefield.

Indy needs to win and have Baltimore lose and they can get a first round bye sending the Ravens to play in the wildcard weekend.

Is this right?

Unless the Titans pull off a miracle, the Chiefs are now the only remaining dark horse.
How does the SOS thing workout for the Packers? Is that over too? I know they needed a Giant win to apply.Awww.. see the above. Thanks!

Who do the Jets play next week, Indy? If Indy loses, does NE become the 3 seed?

And I'm guessing we'll have a New York Double header next Sunday, probably Jets-Indy(if thats their draw, or NE) and Giants/Philly.

I figure Saturday will be Denver at NE and Dallas at Seattle.

Jets have the edge over KC, but Denver has the edge (conference record) if they win and get in.NE gets the 3 with an Indy loss.Yes, Dallas @ Seattle.

If Denver wins:

#6 Jets @ #3 Colts

#5 Broncos @ #4 Patriots

If Denver TIES:

#6 Broncos @ #3 Colts

#5 Jets @ #4 Patriots

so KC at the colts. the colts worst nightmare. and mangini returns to NE. good stories for the AFC

NFC not so much.

Mangini vs. Belichek won't have much mainstream appeal but what a great football chess match that will be. Jets could have clipped them twice this year, I think NE would much rather face KC.
