NFL rule change (1 Viewer)

Per Rotoworld:

In addition to the "out," "doubtful," "questionable," and "probable" tags, the NFL's revised injury-report policy will include categories of "did not participate in practice," "had limited participation in practice," and "fully participated in practice."

So things should be a bit more clear this season. Hopefully teams like the Patriots won't be listing everyone as having been limited in practice in addition to being questionable. We should get a better idea of whether players will play in certain weeks. Good news for fantasy football.

I certainly think that each team should have to report the same information to one another so that there is an "even" playing field [pun intended], but I have to be honest I find these reports often to be of limited help from a "fantasy football" perspective.

Depending on your league's lineup submittal policy it can still leave you without quality information to make your decision on whether to start someone or not. I'm in several leagues and one requires a lineup submittal by Friday at 5:00 pm.

Knowing that a player is "out" in general for a given week is sound information. But how often does a guy who is listed as "doubtful" or "probable" end up playing? Quite often in practice. Or on the flip side, how often does a guy who is listed as "fully participated in practice" not suit up? Not as frequent but it happens.

A guy like Todd Heap is a good example for this puzzle. He has a history of ankle injuries and quite often he will miss most of every reported practice each week and yet ... He's out on the field nearly every Sunday, but be careful because it is not every Sunday.

I don't know the answer ... I just don't think that adding extra categories assists us with the problem of using a given injured player for our lineups.
