NFL rules question from the end of the Ari/Stl game (1 Viewer)

Is the time supposed to be put back on the clock that was used up during the play on which the penalty occured?

Referring to the STL/ARI game. 5 seconds on the clock, stl punts but arizona is offside. Clock runs down to 0. Stl accepts the penalty and replays the down from 5 yards closer. Shouldnt 5 seconds have been on the clock to replay the down?

I really wanted to see Rackers attempt that 75 yd FG. I dont understand how they can decline a penalty and then change there mind?

Could Green have challenged that? It was obvious the coaching staff declined the penalty and then changed their mind when they saw Rackers was going to try a FG. A  75 YARD FG

Yeah - I wanted to see that too. I assumed we would as long as ari called a fair catch on the replay of the down. thats why I was surprised to see them replay it with no time on the clock.

Yeah that would have been sweet. A 75 yard Fg!!!!!!!!!

Since they accepted the penalty (ultimately) and the game can't end on a defensive penalty you get the one untimed play. Outside of Wayne Fontes or Rich Kotite there's no other scenario I can think of where the QB would kneel on 4th down.

77-yard free kick. No tee allowed, but you can use a holder.

Offside always results in a running clock. After the play, you can take the play or the 5yds. That's why many announcers and fans will remark "free play" when they see the offsides.

If there's 1 second on the clock before the play I would think a kneeldown on 4th would do the trick.
