NFL Schedule - used to be leaks (1 Viewer)

Seems like the NFL is tight lipped about the schedule, but around 24 hours before some big games get leaked. Wondering what you are all hearing.

I'm hearing that the title of this thread is misleading. I was expecting to come in here and read about some actual leaks of the NFL schedule.

Strange. In past years we have heard about a few games by now. Guess it will make for good TV tomorrow night.

This is a 3-hour special? Wow. I mean, I'm all for the excitement and talking about the schedule, but if they draw this out over 3 hours I know I won't be watching the whole thing. Will NFL.com take 3 hours to post the schedule as well or will the network special be a long discussion after the whole schedule is posted?

Three hour special to announce the schedule is no longer suprising. The NFL jumped the shark long ago when they thought it was entertainment to watch a bunch of guys in spandex and under armor count their bench press reps live. This was the new nadir of sports programming.

Like you won't be watching. :P

@AdamSchefter: Sked: Broncos and Wes Welker vs. Patriots, Texans and Ed Reed vs Ravens, and Ravens and Elvis Dumervil vs Broncos.

Thanks Adam .. Any idea when?

We already know every opponent each team will have. That tweet from Schefter is pretty much worthless.

Can I be the first to say it, but who cares. Everyone knows each team plays about half their games against team within their division. Everyone knows what other divisions each division is playing a few years in advance. The unknown is like 2 games per season and when each game is played. Big deal. The NFL having a 3 hour show to promote the schedule is laughable, but even more sad is that there are people that are going to watch more than 1 minute of it. For shame.

For those who like to follow a team on the road, it's exciting because you can start making your travel plans for the fall. I know a bunch of Lions fans who are chomping at the bit to find out what date they'll be out here in Phoenix so they can start looking at arrangements.

Fine and dandy Azgroover, but a 3 hour television event that people are actually going to sit and watch? Come on. You want to make travel plans? Cool. Go to nfl.com tonight or tomorrow and download the schedule. I was moreso commenting on the ridiculousness of both the 3 hour show and the fact that millions of people have nothing better to do than to watch it.

:goodposting: This would be a much bigger deal if we didnt know the opponents beforehand. A 3 hour show...really?

Yeah, 3 hours is stupid. It's usually released on the internet on or before the show's start time.

I guess when NFL network has something big, they have to draw it out. Otherwise, they're just showing more of their stupid top 10 lists.

Unconfirmed, but just heard on DC radio that the Skins open vs the Eagles on Monday night. Not clear who the home team is. Source is being listed as Adam Carriker

Lay a bet on the Skins' winning the Super Bowl if true...

I'm just waiting to see what the bye weeks are and if any 'difficult to settle' conflicts exist on my dynasty roster.

Bingo. Plus season ticket holders want to know about sunday or Monday night. Thanksgiving day...

Exactly. A bunch of us are waiting to plan road trips, weekends, etc.

Maybe folks who sit at home and never go to a game don't care. Or perhaps casual fans. Or maybe those who don't follow a team closely.

Good posting. My wife's a teacher, so every year we have a 4 day window in October where we could fly out for the weekend for a road game. So for us, it is exciting. Sort of like a lottery. You have the cities you've already been to, the places you want to go. Or it could simply be a home game/bye. We watch because it makes it all the more exciting. If we hit, the wife begins travel plans immediately. If not, better luck next year. Just something we do together. If you think its stupid/don't care, don't watch. But I'd bet there's still a buttload who will.

Yep, you don't even have to follow a particular team. I'm going to be in Dallas for the ASU/Notre Dame game in October. I'd love to go back to the stadium the next day for a Cowboys game to make it a doubleheader weekend. Today, I find out if that's possible.

I read on a twitter feed from Ann Carroll that the Vikings' game in London against the Steelers is week four, and then Vikes have a week five bye (assume Pitt would as well).

Agree that I don't get the 3 hour TV thing, as a viewer.

But in thinking about it, I get the NFLN doing this. Hey, it's their baby, they have a network, nothing else is going on now, why not have some original programming? It'll get better ratings than a repeat of those top 10 lists. Won't cost anything to throw some guys in the studio.

I won't watch, but I get why they are doing it.

I personally find the schedule release to be very exciting, as it's when that and the draft typicall coincide when my league starts to discuss the new year.

Plus with the schedule finally out, us big "by-committee" guys can start formulating our list of great defensive, tight end, and quarterback pairings

Personally I'm just hoping for the Saints to have a nice opening stretch plus some home SNF & MNF games and no TNF.
This along with who I may not have to face because their players are on bye weeks when I play them.

This is the league that made a middle aged man reading names off a 3 by 5 card arguably into its 2nd bigest event. The ability of the NFL to make rather mundane events (also see the combine), into market opportuntities is beyond amazing.

I Care only because I have season tickets and go to an away game or two, so will like to plan etc.

The only info I've seen is Balt @ Denver Week 1, and Denver also has another Thursday night game vs SD in December.

I've seen Phi@Was MNF Week 1, and Pats 4 primetime games.

How accurate remains to be seen.

"Who will get the biggest slice of primetime pie"

Well NFL, you'll do what you always do the Sunday night team will play the following Monday night etc, resulting in the same 5 teams on SNF/MNF

The Packers will play at the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 27 on Sunday night football. Kickoff at 7:30 p.m., a source said.

Well fantasy football is going to be affected more this year on bye weeks then they have ever been since the days of the "double byes" back in the day.

So far we have seen byes in week 11 and 12 and if you play a 13 week schedule most leagues have the 1st 3 weeks and last 3 weeks as division games usually both teams are full strength.

Also in a lot of high stake contests week 11 is the last regular season game and 12 are playoffs and now you will be without star players in your biggest games.
