NFL will open facilities Friday morning (1 Viewer)

So the NFL just announced they will open their facilities on Friday morning. Some think that if the appeals court immediately denies the request for a stay (possibly even this afternoon), then we could have some trading tomorrow. I feel it's unlikely that free agents would sign with such ambiguity, but who knows?

Interesting how this affects teams like Philly in particular. Philly would benefit from trading Kolb today. Tomorrow, they will have less "suitors" for Kolb, as we'll see 3-4 (maybe more) qb's selected tonight.

Just a crazy week.

I think the trading (of players under contract) could happen by tonight. But as for FA signings, unless they agree to a new CBA, that is dead in the water. What I have heard is that the NFL is going to allow the teams a brief PR meet and greet with the teams 1st round picks and that is the only contact they are allowed with the players. They walk away from the podium and are not to even talk to each other.

NFL will allow players to work out, meet with coaches, get playbooks, etc., as of Friday but no free agency, trades yet. Appeal pending.

It looks like they will announce tomorrow when the league year starts. I'd almost guarantee it won't be until Monday.

It will be interesting to see if any owners/players break ranks on FA signings. There's nothing stopping them from signing contracts with football players not under contract--and really, even if a CBA does get agreed to, it won't be able to force invalidation of already-signed contracts.

Kevin Kolb is the loser in this. If trading were available today, Kolb might get traded for a first and be a starting QB next year. Now? Will the Eagles risk trading Kolb for a 2012 pick? I don't think so.

Kolb might be a backup again in 2011.

Where are you hearing this?

Wasnt rotoworld reporting that free agency and trades would start happening on monday?
Most likely that will be the case, but we won't know for sure until tomorrow.Another ramification is that RFA's from last year (Deangelo, Sidney Rice) will still be RFA's, at least that's how I see it.

620 WDAE's afternoon sports host Steve Duemig talked yesterday with a representative of the players union, and he went into some detail about how business was to be conducted. He said that the next CBA will be time-intesive to get accomplished since it will require the entire parameter of the structure of the CBA to be redone, detail by detail. The next CBA will be a 10-15 year agreement, according to the NFL players rep. (Sorry, I didn't get his name.)

why wouldnt the owners and GMs want to be able to trade players during the draft? Silly
Because the NFL hasn't set any league rules on trades yet. They threw out the old rules. Draft picks can be traded since this draft was agreed to under the last CBA.

League year likely to start Monday with free agency, details to be announced sometime during the day tomorrow (Friday). Per NFL.com.

No word yet on cap, franchise tags, RFAs, or any other details.
