Buc's would take Kalil if he fell this far.

Not bad...but with a Moss trade possibly coming, I don't see Green Bay going WR in round 2...not with Weddle still on the board and a need for a safety.

That and all these mocks are fine for the 1st round, but how many teams will end up drafting there in the 2nd and 3rd? Plenty of trades will go down that day.

I don't see room for Booker in the top 3 rounds. I just think there are too many other guys capable of doing more.

I don't see how the Patriots don't use a first round pick on a DB. They also have been vocal in the past about not taking a LB in the first round because they need to groom some one for their hybrid role. To date that has had them taking more proven free agents or taking conversion projects later in the draft. Given that they grabbed a TE/FB early on last year, I can't see them taking a FB in the first this year.

Some initial observations.(1)

As a Stiller fan, I'm not sure I'd be too happy with that draft. Every mock I see has the Steelers selecting Leon Hall or Jarvis Moss in the 1st. I just don't buy into either of those choices for them.

This team won the SB 2 years ago, had a very banged up QB for 2006 and had a down year. I don't foresee them picking in the top half of the draft anytime soon, so best to get a quality playmaker (BPA) while the opportunity is there.

(2) Love all 4 players in the Bucs mock. Excellent choices with their 3rd & 4th picks

(3) Chiefs also have an excellent trio

(4) Dolphins hit on 3/4 ths here... I don't believe in Harris at the next level.

(5) Another nice trio for the Raidahs here.

ehhh, Ok. I laughed at the Cowboys taking a Kicker in the 2nd.

Eagles are not close, WR, DE, QB. Not good guesses. They don't see WR as a first rd need or QB in the 3rd. DL is one of the few areas they can hold off on also.

More Likely 1-DB, 2-LB, 3-best player available

Minnesota Vikings

Jamaal Anderson De | Arkansas

Anthony Gonzalez Wr | Ohio St.

Daymeion Hughes Cb | California
I'd trade the rights to these three players to move up for Cal Johnson. Even quicker than instantly. I mean Anthony Gonzalez? My God, please say it ain't so.

Big OL run in the early second round...

With the whole right side of the Jets OL a question mark and little depth elsewhere, I really hope the Jets move down from round 1 or just take the Guard that best fits their system at 25. Hopefully some team is targeting a player at 25 and is willing to trade, maybe the Redskins 'step up' Again.

Looks like the DE class is a little deeper and a good value will fall to their next pick.

Jets aren't as desperate at CB imo.

I hate the Steeler picks (mostly.) I wouldn't have a problem with Moss in the first, but I would rather have Moses in the 2nd than Moss in the first. Tanard Jackson, forget it. Guy got stabbed in an altercation a few years ago and was suspended last year for conduct detrimental? Yeah, that sounds like a Steelers guy....

Also doubt they spend a first day pick on a C when they signed Mahan and have Okobi and Marvin Philip already rostered.

Kicker for the boys in the 2nd???.......Jones is crazy enough to do something like that! For sure.Agree with your likely choices for 1st & 2nd rounds. Wouldn't mind seeing the Birds take Hunt in the 3rd---most seem to think he will last that long.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars Reggie Nelson S | Florida :banned: 48. Jacksonville Jaguars Charles Johnson De | Georgia :banned: 79. Jacksonville Jaguars Troy Smith Qb | Ohio St. :banned: -I hope they don't take Troy Smith here.
Dont be put off by smith too much here. He is one of the 'projects' that the Jaguars love to draft and develop. I think Vic terms them as 'jars on a shelf'. Regardless, Smith shined in his pro day, did just fine at the combine and played exceptionally well in the senior bowl practices- albeit not the game itself. His stock is rising but seeing our 3rd round picks the past years makes me want something a bit more steady. Brandon Siler here would make me a very happy man.

Someone will probably take Crosby in round 2. His leg is so strong that his ability to get touchbacks is almost as valuable as his accuracy.

Like the dolphin picks here and it falls in line with my thinking that Houck has other guys he values later at the T spot than Levi to us in the first.

Scott just said he is prepping version 2 currently where Calvin goes #1. (as soon as Moss goes to the Packers)

Just read an interesting piece at PFT. Favre insists he wants the Pack to trade for Moss, Moss gets a contract restructure, Calvin Johnson then becomes a distinct possibility as a #1 draft pick, when Oakland would have gone QB before acquiring Rodgers. Lo and behold, Brett Favre, Moss and Calvin Johnson are all represented by Bus Cook.Bus Cook = Puppetmaster

Drafting a QB is a smart thing to do and I think it will happen, but I happen to think that that jar is half full for a day one selection. In this scenario, there are many others I would rather see drafted at this spot.

I still think the Pats would take someone like S Michael Griffin at 28th especially if Nelson is gone. I don't see the FB being drafted (although he is the kind of player who can play as a running back, fullback & receiver). Then again, that is why I don't draft for the Patriots. This could be the type of move the Patriots could do. If the guy is the best on the board, at that positions, and projected to go in the second round, the Pats would have to move for him at #28 since they do not have a second rounder. I still have the Pats going CB/S with those two picks.

great list!not sure the Giants will get a shot at Levi Brown, and , they have far more pressing needs such as LB's and DB's ( we seriously need DB's!)

interestingly, Sporting News came out with their draft kit a few days ago, and they had the Giants taking Antonio Pittman in the first round, mostly because they'll be looking for a RB early, and if they wait until round two or later, most of the highly rated backs like Lynch and Pittman will be gone ( certainly by their pick

in round 2)

SN also have a system where they rate players nationally, and Brady Quinn rated out at #52. They're of the opinion that Quinn is another Joey Harrington-sized bust, and that some team will reach for him , early . They believe he's nothing more than a 3rd round QB ( they rate him at #52, but think he's even worth less than that!)

also, I know Matt Millen is in a bit of a pickle here; he can't possibly take yet another WR in the first round, but, perhaps the SAFEST pick for Detroit to make , is to take C. Johnson..He is the best WR to enter the league since Larry Fitzgerald, and he has MORE natural ability than Andre Johnson. He looked like a man among boys in college, not unlike Randy Moss..

if there ever was a 'can't miss' player, CJ would have to be it.Thomas is a solid pick as well, but not taking CJ could become another mario williams/bush type of thing for years to come.

:goodposting:

That's pretty good. I think things fall apart for him at about pick 50, but then again, it's kind of a crap shoot at that point anyway. I'd be surprised if Troy Smith went that high. I also think that Alama-Francis is too high. But his first 40 picks are hard to find fault with.
I dont think Brian Leonard is very likely to the Patriots. The FB hasnt been much a part of the Pats offense in recent years and I dont see Leonard as a TB. I also dont see him as a 3rd down replacement for Kevin Faulk. I would rather try to get Lorenzo Booker as a 3rd rounder.

Not bad. I just don't see the Bills taking a CB first. Their either going MLB or HB in first. IMO, MLB. With RB and CB in the 2nd, assuming they don't make any more trades.

I can't see the Dolphins taking the 3rd best DE when secondary is just as big a need and the top secondary guy in the draft is still out there.

What you say about need is true, but I wouldn't be shocked if this happens. Leonard is a Patriots kind of guy, and they've shown they aren't afraid to take the guy they want in the draft, "draft grade" or projected round be damned. Pats and Steelers are very much alike in their draft approach - they tend to ignore conventional wisdom, trust their own eyes and instincts, and value character, sportsmanship, and unselfishness as much as natural talent. It's for that reason that while neither team needs a FB (or a TB for that matter) - I wouldn't be shocked to see him go to either franchise. They'd find ways to use him.

:banned: Leonard is very versatile, and he's a leader and winner. He's a HUGE part of how Rutgers rose out of obscurity - think about what that means in terms of his intangibles. He raises the level of play of his teammates. His versatility means that all 32 teams could use him. I don't expect him to last past the 2nd round, and I won't be shocked if he goes in the late first. The Colts would be wise to take Leonard at 32 to make sure they aren't SoL if Addai goes down - he can do everything they would ask of him on 3rd down, stretch plays, short yardage - and they have a natural role for a RB/FB - James Mungro was that guy until he tore up his knee.

Jacoby Jones [...] in the first day! :pickle:
Do you see Jones being a Colston-SOD type this year?- Very good size;- Track speed;- Great athlete (played BBall in college);- Small school - no tough competition;- Played great in the Shrine game;- Very raw...

That's a pretty interesting draft for the Jags - Reggie Nelson, Charles Johnson and Troy Smith. I can't say that I can argue with any of them but I'm not sure Nelson will fall that far.

With the Kevin Curtis signing, I would expect the Eagles to look at a RB (Brian Leonard or Michael Bush), DB or LB in the first now.

He won't slip to the 7th because he's got much better representation than Colston did, but yeah, same idea. A kid very people saw play, but once he was put side by side with the DI WRs, it's clear that he can more than hang, in fact, you wonder how good he'll be in time with a good position coach. The quicks, speed, size, courage, confidence, and hands are all there.Yet another reason to root for Jacoby, a NOLA kid - according to d2football.com, his house was destroyed and he lost family in Katrina.

Doubtful on RB, they have Westbrook, he's not bad and they resigned Buckhalter.LB, probably not either. Not their MO. They don't pay LBs and don't draft them high (though I wish they did this year).DB is most likely. They need help at safety. Of course Reid loves his 1st round lineman

In round three I would hope they'd draft either Woodley or Abiameri instead of a Tight End. We could certainly use another solid pass rusher to compliment Burgess.I'd also consider taking Staley instead of Blalock.

Lions will NOT take Quinn. They don't need an OLB - they need to groom someone for the middle

By far their biggest need is DB - no way in hell they pass on one the first day. So basically this is wrong - wrong - wrong.
