Niners/Raiders (1 Viewer)

Knobs

Didn't see one.

Raiders get the ball and go 3 and out. JaMarcus and Heyward Bey are not on the same page.

Niners Alex Smith is starting. Gore looking good, only one completion thus far, and that was to Vernon DAvis.

Alex Smith with a GREAT throw and Vernon lets it slip right between his hands. So much for the first down, SF punts.

Vernon showing more of the same...

JaMarcus did a nice job staying in the pocket and passing it to Stewart for the first down.

Goldson showing good coverage and was there to make a low tackle.

Niners try a reverse with Battle but the Raiders sniffed it out and SF loses 5 yards.

Alex Smith absolutely destroyed Greg Ellis on a block.

Alex Smith throws it high, but Josh Morgan had it in his hands and couldn't hold onto the ball...it popped up, Ricky Brown picks it and returns it to the nine before Alex Smith slams him to the ground.

So far Alex Smith hasn't looked great, but he's looked better than his stat line would indicate. Morgan should have caught that and Vernon had that huge drop.

Fargas gets stuffed by Takeo and it's 3rd and goal...JaMarcus throws it but it's deflected. False start for Oakland as well.

Oakland went for it on 4th down and couldn't convert.

Alex Smith isn't getting a great deal of time to throw.

Coffee just ripped off another big run.

Coffee is tearing it up. Looks a lot different than last time.

Shaun Hill is in. Completes his first pass to Vernon for negative yardage.

Fantastic job by Morgan! Hill scrambles and throws a duck...Justin Miller starts to grab it for a pick, but Morgan just wrestles the ball away for the completion. He then gets up and starts sprinting for the endzone but is whistled down.

Niners go for it on fourth down and Hill stares his man down...ball is easily deflected.

JaMarcus and DHB aren't on the same page, which is to be expected.

JLH beats Clements deep so Nate holds him for PI...otherwise it's probably a long Raider td.

Coffee just ran for 35 yards...he has over 100 yards already and we're not even halfway through the second quarter...and Gore didn't play too much.

Niners o-line is not being consistent every play, but they're blowing open some big lanes for Coffee to run through.

Another monster hole for Coffee as he picks up another ten or so yards...

JaMarcus had a good stat line and is likely done for the day but imo he didn't look anything great. Not terrible though.

I realize Oakland is lousy against the run, but the Niners are just CRUSHING them in the trenches. It's disgusting. It's a massacre down there.

Coffee has 126 yards rushing. 3:50 to go until halftime.

Coffee, imo, has bounced to the outside a tad too much.

Shaun Hill has marched them down the field into scoring position but he's done it by handing the ball off nearly every play.

7 of the last plays were handoffs to Coffee...the lone pass was to Battle and Hill threw a wobbler that was incomplete.

What's the deal with the 9ers starting WRs and what is going on with Bruce?
Bruce will be a starter once the season starts. Battle/Morgan were getting some love in this game. Morgan has looked much better imo. Whether he starts the season will depend how quickly Crabtree gets in.SF gets stopped just outside the endzone. Coffee 3 yard loss, Hill throws to Vernon...knocked away, but Vernon had run out of bounds so it wouldn't have mattered anyhow.

I :o Garcia. Luis Murphy caught the touchdown w/JaMarcus and he just made a smart move with Garcia, getting out of bounds to stop the clock. Has also run some nice routes.

Can Oakland homers tell me anything about him?

Why wouldn't Morgan start? He's the best WR on the team right now.

Who are the starters now? If Morgan starts who's place does he take? If Crabtree signs is he automatically a starter given the time he's missed. I'm very clouded on what's going on here.

I have no idea if Crabtree or Bruce starts - what I'm confident of is that Morgan will be on the field.

First half player impressions:

Glenn Coffee - Looked good. Maybe not quite as good as the stats would indicate (OL was opening some nice lanes), but he's got a burst and quick feet. He takes what the defense gives him. There's no doubt that he's the handcuff to Gore. This is two weeks in a row that he's been featured and it's clear that the staff wants to get him up to speed. He's sort of like Matt Forte in terms of build and running style. He should be a solid backup at worst. Will he be the starter when Gore moves on? That's still up for debate, but he has played well so far.

Alex Smith - Mediocre outing tonight. The INT was thrown high and deflected. It was a bad throw, but not a horrific pick by any means.

Shaun Hill - Not as physically gifted as Smith, but seems to have a knack for moving the offense. Didn't see enough of him or Smith tonight to say anything conclusive about this QB battle. Neither has looked great. Neither has looked terrible. I have no idea who's going to win this job.

Isaac Bruce - Started. Only played a few snaps.

Josh Morgan - Started. Made a decent catch for a first down. Big target with decent potential as a possession guy. Not very fast or explosive.

Arnaz Battle - Appears to be the WR3 for now. He is what he is.

Vernon Davis - Had some targets. Looked okay. Nothing special. Expect fringe top 10-15 numbers this season.

Raiders O - Expect this unit to struggle mightily. Losing Chaz Schilens was a huge blow. He was the most consistent option in the passing game and it looks like the team will have a lot of problems at WR without him around early in the season. The other WRs looked very pedestrian and I'm not sold on this running game.

Darren McFadden - It's clear that McFadden will be given every opportunity to step up this year. He started the game and seemed to be a focal point of the offense on the first drive or two. He didn't look very good though. He doesn't run with any power and seems like a very one dimensional runner. If there's a seam, he's deadly. Otherwise he's mediocre. He can't create on his own and seems to struggle with inside running. I have always been a critic and I've seen nothing in his Raiders career to make me think he'll live up to his draft hype.

Justin Fargas - Played ahead of Bush and behind McFadden. Looked okay. He is what he is. He runs hard, but lacks great vision or moves.

JaMarcus Russell - Hard to get a read on him based on tonight's action. It doesn't help that his supporting cast is weak. Did have a pretty TD throw to a wide open WR in the end zone.

Darrius Heyward-Bey - Believe he started, but he was totally invisible.

Johnnie Lee Higgins - Same story as DHB.

Louis Murphy - May have started. Definitely got a lot of playing time early in the game. Caught an easy TD where he was wide open in the end zone. Also got the ball on a reverse. Might be a guy to monitor for dynasty purposes. He didn't look exceptional though.

Cliff's: Coffee looked solid. Raiders looked weak on offense. SF QB battle still undecided.

TOOOOOUCHDOWN RAAAAIDAHS!
Thanx to completely lowsy blown coverage by Clements.
'I love it when they can't compete.'
Does Gradkowski have any chance of unseating Garcia as the backup? Stats so far are better.
Even if Robinson makes the 9ers squad, does he have a role?
His only role outside of special teams would be as the 3rd string RB.He's irrelevant for FF purposes.
