No FA pickups during fantasy playoffs? (1 Viewer)

I'm in 4 leagues... run 1... and in one of my new ones, rosters lock during the playoffs... so the team that got you there is the team you have for the playoff run.

Is anyone else doing this... I see pro's and con's... but this could be devastating with injuries also....

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this and how they like it.

Thanks

We do allow IR injury pick-ups only. It has to be position for position. Obviously no team defensive swaps.

We lock all trades and free agency after week 10. This eliminates the potential of teams picking a free agent or one-sieded trade that may help them because the other teams are out of it. I feel this puts more emphasis on where it should be and that's the draft. Any idiot can pick-up a free agent...

same thing we doone wrinkle is that in our fantasy playoffs your entire roster plays (except for your practice squad)this prevents just a team with a hot/fantastic group of starters from dominating. It also means that you must have a deep team.

This is the rule in the majority of my leagues, although the ones with short benches do leave a loophole allowing you to make a move if you wouldn't be able to field a player at a certain position. I think main reason for it is that if you allow playoff waivers the reduced # of teams + the amazing amount of change from week to week in the NFL = fantasy playoffs becoming an even bigger crapshoot than they already are.

For example if team A has a solid roster and team B has lucked their way to the fantasy bowl, with no one to compete against for waiver, team B may find 3-4 legit guys to plug and play against team A in the championship, so suddenly they have a much stronger team than they did all season.

I think the default setting in Yahoo leagues allows for playoff add/drops, I took a very average team to the championship in a 14 team league last year because my crappy existing players allowed me the flexibility to play match-ups and pick up the hot waiver wire guys. It was fair and square within the rules, but I know it frustrated the hell out of the teams that had crushed all year to get taken down by my team which was probably 40-60% different every week.

Dynasty 53 man rosters...

We allow trades up to Week 9, FA pickups all season long, but if you acquire an FA after Week 9, the are not eligible for the playoffs, only the fantasy regular season.

Here's our COMPROMISE:

Rosters lock at wk 12 kickoff.

all teams are given 1 Emergency FA pickup afterward.

However, the catch is this:

FA transactions in our league are normally $4

Emergency FA transactions in our league $10

Allows some flexibility, but that owner better make sure it's worth the extra money that he's donating to the transaction pot.

yeah my league has always done this. i like it. it really only ends up being a couple weeks you can't make a change. i've never had anyone complain.

7th year of our dynasty league. We have always locked our rosters once the playoffs start. Right before is when teams that are rebuilding will stock pile future prospects and teams in the hunt have to consider "wasting" roster spots on backup kickers and other position players they may need should injury hit.

It has worked great for us.

Yes, we have always done this. The lesson is "Be Prepared".

We allow add/drops to continue throught the playoffs but we have a "home field advantage rule". the waiver order for playoff teams is seeded 1st to worst. opposite of the regular season.

One last waiver run week 14 before the playoffs and that's it for us. Seems to work great. You see a lot of RB, WR depth dropped though for a couple more def's that have great matchups as well as a backup TE and Kicker.
