No Pro Bowl Thread? (1 Viewer)

*yawn*

I don't blame Hawaiians for not going to the game. These guys are going to go half speed. Also, lots of other things I'd rather be doing if I were in Hawaii!

Meanwhile Brees gets knocked down twice on the first 3 plays... If I was Sean Payton I'm getting in touch with the sideline and telling him to sit for the rest of the day.

I would really prefer AFC vs NFC, I mean, I don't know who I'm supposed to root for here.. this game looks more competitive than years past at least

whats been the most serious injury during a pro bowl?
Drew Brees dislocated his elbow 7 years back.
I thought that was in the last game of the season for the Chargers? I recall it was a meaningless game too.
That was his shoulder in 05.

Terrible game!!

I'm watching for a final score of like 63-56... Pretty pathetic so far, I don't think most are tuning in for defense.

I'd be fine if they got rid of this game.

With Derrick Johnson playing like the stud he is and Poe looking pretty good (next to Watt helps), it's little wonder KC had a good year.

I knew it was on tonight and basically only tuned in to see the uniforms (which were terrible). I watched for about 1 minute, but did get to see the Rivers to Gordon TD pass. It looked like it could be interesting, but I ultimately chose watching standup comedy over it.

Making matters worse, I just clicked on ESPN to see what the final was, and the Pro Bowl wasn't even in its Top Stories. I had to go digging to find the score/recap. Lets just move to a skills comp and call it a day.

ETA: this should be unpinned, so people can actually find it.

Was the first pro-bowl remotely worth watching in over a decade.
Not directed at you specifically, but Goodell really does know what he is doing.
right on both counts. He takes a lot of criticism for changing the game, but most of his decisions make for a more exciting game. Not real big on some of the DB/receiver contact rules, but they work if the goal is to make games exciting.

Thought this rule they used was interesting

» Stopping of the Game Clock -- Beginning at the two-minute mark of every quarter, if the offense does not gain at least one yard, the clock will stop as if the play were an incomplete pass. This rule will make the team with the ball attempt to gain yardage toward the end of each quarter.

No kneeldowns to end the game. Wonder if they are thinking about implementing this for the last 2 minutes of the half and game.

They had several funky rules in place to help make the game more entertaining and competitive. They also paid the players on the winning team twice as much $$$ (53K vs. 26K), which seemed to be enough to make the players on the field actually play harder. It's a shame that the pro-bowl had earned such a terrible reputation and so few people were watching because for the first time in well over a decade, it was a good game that was actually worth watching.

Some of the rules they used would not make sense for actual competitive games of course (such as a two minute warning in the third quarter with the other team automatically getting the ball to start the fourth, and grounding not enforced)- but the rule about clock stoppages late was an interesting idea that I could see supporting.

This would be a great change. I like the ideal of using the pro-bowl to test out some new rules.

Didn't watch a second of it so the five minutes I spent reading this thread is the entirety of my exposure.

Normally, the absolute only thing I care about re: the Pro Bowl is to know none of my FF players got a crazy injury (sad, but true).

It is really something that makes no sense in a game like this. Everything the NFL does is attempting to reduce hits so...let's play one more full game of hits and let's do it in a fashion where there is no real practice and the defensive guys can tee off on players?

It doesn't even make sense for the players to want it as a money maker. I have seen players on interview over there say dozens of times that if they play in and lose the game, they LOSE money because the week over there with family cost more than the game check (which I assure you is true, having been there and spent quite a lot just as a regular guy).

I do like the idea of the 2 minute rule people were describing for use in real games. Really compels teams to keep playing versus being ultra-safe.

The players on the LOSING team made 26K. Pretty sure a week in paradise costs less than that.

No kidding.

That said, $50k and $100K seems more in line with the tax rates these guys are paying.

FALSE

It's cool to not like the pro bowl, therefore no one likes the pro bowl.

If there are NFL players on the field, true NFL fans watch. I watched every snap just like I have for as long as I can remember. Much of it sucks but it is what it is.

Just like a previous poster said: Marshall, Gordon, Fitz and Graham wide, with Brees under center and McCoy in the backfield.. wood, and I'm not only watching, I'm tivoing.

I thought the rule changes were fantastic. I liked the uniforms. Best Pro Bowl ever. I'm surprised, yet not, of all the negativity. sheep.

Anyone remember Robert Edwards? Patriots rookie running back that blew out his knee during a flag football game before the probowl.
Actually I think it was a beach football game. Sad deal - ruined his career :(

I was entertained. How did the DL get so much pressure every play? Sacks were ridiculous on both sides.
Pass rush relies a lot more on individual skill where offensive line play requires a lot more coordination and communication.
I think they also allowed some limited stunting at the line. Still no blitzes of course but the stunts enabled some guys to break through the line.

The game was presentable. It's never going to be a masterpiece but as a fun game this passed. Some of the rule changes were more interesting than most of the stuff Goodell has already forced though. I do think that the draft format (borrowed from the NHL btw) does help a bit as it gets the guys razzing each other and wanting to show each other up a little more.

Random question - has there ever been a personal foul in a Pro Bowl? :)
