The level of obsession some of you people have with football is terrifying.

Well, I have no problem with the level of obsession. It's just at the expense of everything else that's concerning. If I find a person who doesn't appreciate baseball, my default is to assume that something is very, very wrong with that person.
funny...I actually believe just the opposite. I assume that something must be very wrong with someone who prefers to watch baseball vs football. Hell, I would prefer to watch peewee football, women's soccer and even the winter olympics than watch one game of baseball...what a boring sport (should baseball even be considered a sport?) it seems like their season starts in dec and ends on nov...what a joke...do you REALLY have to play 7000 games in a season? Multiply that by 4 hrs a game...wow...what a waste of time...
I am sorry for the life you must lead.
Now this is funny....you would BEG to live the life I live....but this is fair from the thread's point. Baseball is just boring....someone once said this:Baseball:

Two guys stand 60 feet apart and throw a ball back and forth. Every once in a while, a third guy sticks a piece of wood in the way. A fourth guy sits behind a microphone and says things such as, "We've got a barn-burner going here!"

And you want me to sit through 4 hours and 162 games of this? Now, imagine if the games were tape delayed....then you could cut out all the spitting, practice swings and warmups and went straight to the pitches. We just saved 2 hours x 162 games of total boredom...but hey...the baseball guys wants to believe this is all part of their grand strategy, nobel prize winning theories about how to win a game....what a scam...

Salaries (rankings) for World Series teams since 2000... Winner listed first (except for 2009)...2000 : Yankees (#1), Mets (#5)2001 : Diamondbacks (#8), Yankees (#1)2002 : Angels (#15), Giants (#10)2003 : Marlins (#26), Yankees (#1)2004 : Red Sox (#2), Cardinals (#11)2005 : White Sox (#13), Astros (#12)2006 : Cardinals (#11), Tigers (#14)2007 : Red Sox (#2), Rockies (#27)2008 : Phillies (#13), Rays (#31)2009 : Yankees (#1), Phillies (#7)
bumpThat can't be entirely accurate since the Rays are ranked 31st in 2008. There's only 30 teams.

That doesn't make any sense. Of course ratings are lower now. Ratings are lower now for EVERYTHING. Only 3 channels in 1962. And the only reason Super Bowl ratings are so high is because people who aren't even fans watch for commercials and the "event" of it all, not the game, so that's a special case. Think the final episode of MASH would get a 60 rating today?

While you're at it with associating tv ratings with smarter people, can you look up the tv ratings of American Idol?TIA

This is an idiotic argument. Look at local news ratings in 1962 or 1972 and what they are today. Guess what, there are 500 channels not three anymore and people choose not to watch sports because it is less intertwined with our culture than it was 40 or 50 years ago when athletes made a wage that had them living among the population. Football has passed baseball in popularity, no argument there and baseball may not ever catch football again. But it is still a staple of existence for sports fans and is the second most popular game in the U.S. Still waiting on your demographics that tells us baseball is the least popular major sport among those 18-30.

Age group as of last year....what a joke...6% in the 18-29 age group....vs 46% for Football and 16% for Basketball

http://sas-origin.onstreammedia.com/origin...lkh28hlorqa.gif

Is this ENOUGH? Baseball is a sport for retirees....look at the trends....the way things are going, ice skating will surpass baseball in this age group by 2015....

I'll assume you missed the game tonight. Unbelievable stuff. I guarantee, though, if you put even the slightest mental effort into learning the game, you'd enjoy the hell out of it.

That baseball does exceedingly well on TV, but not as well as, say, American Idol.

Yet for those over 30 baseball is 2nd and it seems those polls did not include hockey or NASCAR which makes it pretty flawed. Where is the variance, income, cross-section, and location data to those polls? Also the second one you produced proves nothing but football is more popular than baseball which we already know.

Yup. What these guys don't understand is they're comparing apples and oranges in looking at tv ratings from 4 decades ago to now. I don't think they understand how they're calculated and how television has changed (perhaps, they are in the <18 year old demographic). Whatever.Baseball is faa-a-a-a-a-n-tastic. We go through this every season...nothing new.Great game tonight. No regular season NFL game could top this crazy finish.
