As an overreaction to anti-DFS laws, Yahoo SEASON-LONG Pro Leagues are now off-limits to anyone in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada and Washington. Not just people who live there. People who are logging in from there!
Four points:
1) In my case (Hawaii) as well as in most others, SEASON-LONG LEAGUES ARE STILL LEGAL. But, as Yahoo also offers daily fantasy, they totally wimped out and eliminated all pay-leagues along with the DFS.
2) Personally, I am bummed out. Yahoo was my favorite hunting ground, as their payback was a top-notch 90% and there were plenty of rubes that even I could beat. Also, being a large corporation, there was minimal risk of a "Phenoms" type bankruptcy-ripoff. Anyone know of a comparable place to play in pay-leagues? CBS's payout percentages are hideous.
3) DANGER! Even if you are not in a "restricted" state, listen up! Per feedback from Yahoo itself, if you happen to be travelling or vacationing in any of the states listed above, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LOG IN AND MANAGE YOUR TEAM. Better set those lineups before you get on that plane to Vegas (don't even get me started about that can of hypocrisy). So, depending on your travel plans, this either sets up a disastrous scenario or a bizarre competitive advantage.
4) Yahoo is NOT being upfront about this. I was unaware until I tried to buy a team ("you appear to be in a restricted state") and had to dig deep into their help forums to find all this out. If they don't think a poop-storm of customer outrage isn't headed their way this September... well you can Google their history of questionable decision-making.
