ez pour moi, for he played a significant role in my life, even tho i only met him briefly. winter '72-3 i was dating a very political chick and it was just barely worth it that she soooo well rewarded me for sitting thru all her for-the-cause meetings & rallies. anyways, we were at a Zero Population Growth - sexytime, yes?! - thing when kim suddenly volunteers me, cuz i hung around w a lot of musicians, to help put together a benefit concert for ZPG, pref as close to the ghetto as possible (cracked me up even then). a family member worked for boston parks&rec and got us white stadium - roxbury/jamaicaplain's closest thing to a venue - and, all of a sudden i, not yet 20yo, was in charge. had a friend connected with the hottest local band, James Montgomery Blues Band, and got them to volunteer. this gave us an in when we banged on musicbiz doors and eventually a band called Pure Food and Drug Act (w the great don 'sugarcane' harris and mr mandel) decided to do it as an exposure gig. my uncle printed 1500 tickets for early summer '73, few of which sold until the Montgomery Band blew the Eagles off the stage (a story i've told b4 in these pgs) in May. sold out, oversold to the fire limit, cool.Harvey Mandel, good pull
He's great. Remember seeing him a few years ago and wondering if he'd flame out or become the next Bonamassa-esque prodigy. Buddy Guy is a pretty good mentor I guess.Maybe not the best yet, but maybe the "next: one.
He is a Buddy Guy protégé, and was discovered at like years old. Now he is making a name for himself. I have seen him live, and he is damn good:
Quinn Sullivan
Quinn plays Little Wing
Derek Trucks at 13 - note the shirtHe's great. Remember seeing him a few years ago and wondering if he'd flame out or become the next Bonamassa-esque prodigy. Buddy Guy is a pretty good mentor I guess.
Here he is at 17 in June playing Little Wing again.
You'd look better sporting Roy Buchanan whiskers. Most original blues guitarist i ever heard - too much so for many purists (inc. being the 1st fret-tapper) - was Harvey Mandel.
Most underrated - Elvin Bishop
But the answer is Skydog and it ain't close. Have worn my whiskers like his for a long time and that's just too lame to be anything but a tribute.
I wouldn't look good sporting Daisy Buchanan ON my whiskers...You'd look better sporting Roy Buchanan whiskers.
Getting better and better! He's great. Remember seeing him a few years ago and wondering if he'd flame out or become the next Bonamassa-esque prodigy. Buddy Guy is a pretty good mentor I guess.

You must not have seen a show recently. I did and thought he was crazy good. It's been a long downhill ride for the past 40+ years.
wow, how come i have never heard of this guy.
saw him about 10 years ago, up there with duane.
saw him a month ago. he's amazing. very unique soundsaw him about 10 years ago, up there with duane.![]()
Maybe i'm getting old and i don't half get why folks pay what they do to see what they do these days anyways, but throwing down good dough to listen to old people jam is flappin' butt low on my list.
He's good; listen to the second half of this video for crazy good. You must not have seen a show recently. I did and thought he was crazy good.
nopeCurrent?
Julian Lage
Though blues is one of many descriptors for the way he plays.
Also has this in the bag for days
That cat is a great guitar player but he does not fit into the blue category. He's more of a jazz fusion player, reminds me a little of Wayne Krantz. If you really want to pick a dark horse you could have gone with J.D Simo. Funny thing is you already know this. I've seen enough of your post about music. For me the answer if Jeff Beck, but SRV is the other acceptable answer IMHO. Anyways. thanks for turning me onto another guitar player.okay
sry - same opinion i've had of him for 40 yrs. damn fine soloist. don't care for soloists - Satriani, Bonnamassa, child guitar wizards, ya boyee. soulless. soloists are soulless. no matter how evil your sound, takes songs to sing, not solos to string, to convince me you've licked the devil's ground.
While I agree with you on the two you cited, this comment is nonsense pardner. You might not know the language and that's cool, but you are definitely out of your depth if that's how you view soloing on spec.sry - same opinion i've had of him for 40 yrs. damn fine soloist. don't care for soloists - Satriani, Bonnamassa, child guitar wizards, ya boyee. soulless. soloists are soulless. no matter how evil your sound, takes songs to sing, not solos to string, to convince me you've licked the devil's ground.
Tommy SowellMods:. Can we get this deleted and the OP banned?
If not I would like to start a thread about the best black economists.
and that's what i've admired so much about you all along - your depth. While I agree with you on the two you cited, this comment is nonsense pardner. You might not know the language and that's cool, but you are definitely out of your depth if that's how you view soloing on spec.
bb king, jj cale, b gibbons ...Tommy Sowell
BTW...The guitarists who always reached my soul were Stevie Ray, Duane and Jerry Garcia.
There is so much soul in this little Tyrone Davis number by Roy - that there is enough left for the rest of the world..all 10 zillion billion people. So ####### soulful....sry - same opinion i've had of him for 40 yrs. damn fine soloist. don't care for soloists - Satriani, Bonnamassa, child guitar wizards, ya boyee. soulless. soloists are soulless. no matter how evil your sound, takes songs to sing, not solos to string, to convince me you've licked the devil's ground.
Sorry, brother - not phyllin' it. Tasty enuff licks and all, in a Dead-ly sorta way but, even clearing my head best i could, i knew where he was going every bar. And i never cared for that trebly tone of his. It's OK, I don't have to love him for you to. Glad you do - that's what it's for. There is so much soul in this little Tyrone Davis number by Roy - that there is enough left for the rest of the world..all 10 zillion billion people. Hendrix, along w Willie Mays, are my secular gods, but my favorite album of his is Axis cuz i like him, and everybody, most when he shoots his sundust most closely within the context of songs. No singing of songs mentioned so I'm going to have to disagree.![]()
