nomination - greatest, level headed, classic t.v. character in a supporting role. (1 Viewer)

Frasier Crane, Cheers
Before he hooked up with Diane and Lilith, sure.

Afterwards, not so much.

But...Frasier's gradual descent from erudite snob to henpecked everyman is part of what made Cheers so great in the first place. And Kelsey Grammer was such a great actor that he could pull off both personalities, oftentimes in the same episode.

Mr Carson, Mrs Hughes, the Dowager Countess

Ah, just throw in the whole supporting cast of Downton Abbey. Series was awesome.

i think Andy was much more level headed ... hell, Aunt Bee had flights of fancy, and was duped a couple times by dodgy paramours

i know Andy wasn't a "supporting" role, so he doesn't qualify ... but i think he steadied the ol' bird more than vice versa.

On top of that Andy had to babysit a trigger happy doofus as his partner. Not to mention a whole town of idiots.

Bunk Moreland played by Wendell Pierce was the first that came to mind.  Keeping Jimmy Mceffup in line was no easy job.
