Not giving thanks for this year's Thanksgiving games (1 Viewer)

Green Bay at Detroit

Oakland at Dallas

Seriously?

Good grief. Why would they give Oakland the late afternoon Thanksgiving game? Okay, I get that Dallas gets that home game, and it is CBS's turn for the late game, so it has to be an AFC team at Dallas, so why not have made it San Diego at Dallas (SD is the other AFC team that plays at Dallas this year)? That would have been a much better game.

I know it is tradition, but it is about high time that Detroit gets that game taken away from them. Some traditions need to be broken.

The Giants/Broncos night game should be good, but that is on the NFL Network, which a lot of people still don't have.

  to the NFL.

The only redeeming quality in the early games is fantasy stats.

The only reason I tune into "bad games" anymore. Unless my team is one of the bad games

Good grief...........will they ever get these thanksgiving games right?

the oakland thing is a mystery.

But the Lions are not going to lose the early game. They suck, but I also remember a lot of sweet game with Barry/Herman et. al.

Night game looks good.

Cant be any worse than the browns ravens game last night

This is one of the issues that Goodell should have spent more time focusing on than that crackpot project to set up a NFL team in London. I just think that would be a better use of the NFL's priorities.

The GB - Detroit game might be mildly interesting for the first 3 quarters.
I do remember not too long ago, maybe it was, when a very good GB Packers team came to play a struggling Det team anda spry Mike Mcmahon led a 4th quarter charge to come within a 2 point conversion of a tie with the Packers.COST me $$ that day, what a dark day that was

This is the beauty of fantasy football. The fantasy angle will keep me mildly interested while I hang out with family & eat a crapload of good food. Then there's a decent game to enjoy that evening.

I will watch any NFL game if its my only option. I enjoy evaluating players, even on the Raiders. We get to see McFadden, Schillens, Bush, DHB, etc. You never know when one of those young guys will turn the corner.

Based on my family's eating schedule, that's when the turkey-induced sleep comes on.

Fixed!! Keep the Thanksgiving game in Detroit. They aren't always going to suck! Or are they?

I'm biased being from Detroit, but this is not just a game or a tradition; it is a part of our culture.

If they want to rotate it, fine; just rotate all of the prime time games.

I like a good game as much as anyone, but at the same time, I get tired of seeing the same handful of teams 5-6 times every year in prime time games.

Rant over.

Holy Crap! 5 of my starters are playing that Thursday. At least I have a reason to watch the games, I guess.

I don't... I'd take NE vs Indy 12 times a year on MNF, and Pitt vs Balt 4 times. They can surprise me with that last one.

The Chargers agreed to play on Christmas. They arent going to play on both Holidays. No other options for Dallas /thread

I agree, those games are horrible. I dont even have a fantasy player in the first two games. May be a Thanksgiving with no football.

Green Bay and Detroit is history in the making.

Takes me back to my childhood. I'm starting all my Packers and Delmas if he's playing.

The GB/Det game will be worth watching because at least we get to watch Calvin. But why on earth would they put Oakland in the late game? Why on earth would they put Oakland on any game this year when there wasn't an option to change the channel to another NFL game at the same time?

because its thanksgiving and its dallas and they can put anybody up against them and people will be watching regardless. they are better off using the sd vs dallas match up on another random sunday and try to pry viewers from other things. this way they get more viewers for NFL as a whole.

How do you know your professional sports league is a wild success? When you can put totally crappy teams on during the holidays and KNOW that everyone will watch anyway.

As an American, with families that love the tradition these Turkey Day games provide... its really has become a horrible blight on this day.
As a Canadian, I can say that here you've been blessed with a day off of work (likely two) in which it is honored tradition to be with family and loved ones, gorge on a huge, festive meal to the point of needing to loosen your belt, drink spirits until you achieve a nice tipsy buzz (and way beyond), then sit on the couch for 6 hours to watch all the glory that is NFL football. And still you find something to whinge about.

The Hall of Fame games are rotated. So is MNF to some degree (hence the Browns getting on, and other teams with lousey records who have been on in past years). But not every franchise has been on Thanksgiving. A lot have not.

But why not at least rotate every team in the league in so that every team's fans get to enjoy this tradition?

>The votes were beginning to add up in favor of passing the resolution to rotate the Thanksgiving Day games. There was then a break in the meeting, and at that point Detroit and Dallas began to work the room to get some votes. When we came back, the momentum had begun to change from a room that had a majority of teams favoring a switch in the format to keeping the games in Dallas and Detroit. Both Dallas and Detroit spoke about how these games had become a great tradition in both of their cities. Detroit had the game on Thanksgiving since the 1930s. Discussions then centered on letting Detroit stay at home but force Dallas to play in different cities on Thanksgiving, but Dallas fought that.

Finally, some of the older owners, such as Wellington Mara of the New York Giants, spoke about the importance of tradition and keeping the status quo. After he spoke -- I do not remember if he spoke first -- some of the other veteran owners spoke to also keep the status quo.

The games would stay in Dallas and Detroit.>

So the Giants are responsible for Dallas keeping the game? That's surprising.

But still, no one in that article mentioned ratings or what the fans think generally.

So we're stuck with watching garbage so that TWO teams can benefit every year? What about the other cities? Why do they have to have the crippler slipped too them every year just so these two (underserving) cities get to benefit? I don't get it.

I like the Detroit T-Day games, always good to watch...they're usually a bad team , but they seem to play hard on Thanksgiving...it's the Cowboys I could do without.. :goodposting:

i see lots of fantasy gold here...GB should put up decent numbers...and maybe megatron gets some love...and dallas should roll up the fantasy points...good day if you own key players
