Not looking good for those waiting for Bernard Scott (1 Viewer)

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy the Bengals will take a serious look at Michael Bush, Ronnie Brown, and Joesph Addai should Cedric Benson sign elsewhere. Of course if he doesn't Scott is still screwed. It still goes back to the belief Scott is just a complementary player due to durability issues.

I don't see why Scott doesn't at least have a shot of earning some carries with any of these guys, FAs move on for a reason.

I guess it all boils down to what you believe. I believe he's 27 and still not a starter and his team's coaches don't believe he's a starter. That doesn't make for a positive future with regards to being a starter.

I'm by no means high on Scott. I just think with whatever collection of FA/backup RBs they end up with whoever shows more will get the ball more.

To say he has no chance of him being a starter just because he's 27 a little far fetched. He has the same NFL experience as Chris Wells and Thomas Jones broke out when he was 27. Michael Turner broke out his 5th year.

What else do Thomas Jones and Michael Turner have in common?

The thing with Scott is that you were never waiting on him to be a feature back (I hope). He's like Rashad Jennings - you roster him because when you need a spot start you can hope he gets 5-10 touches and busts a big one, or because he'll be a nice RB2 with upside if the starter gets hurt.

I put him in the class with BJGE the past two seasons, Jerious Norwood a few seasons ago, Rashad Jennings now, Darren Sproles when LT was being absolutely dominant and he didn't get as much work as the last couple years...

The type of guys that you plan on starting once, maybe twice a year, but hope you can start 4 or 5 times. He's a nice 2nd/3rd backup RB to have, IMO.

I agree with Instinctive here. That's the realistic expectation. I think the most optimistic situation is for Scott to become a 2-3 year lead back in a committee ala Ahmad Bradshaw-Charlie Garner. Brown, Addai and Bush are all guys that don't have to be the starter if you bring them in. They are used to participating in a committee and they are all of the age and likely contract demands not to be considered the featured back. I see them as 8-10 touch players with some veteran ability to help guys like Scott and possibly Peerman develop into better players down the line.

They're both 5'10
Ok. Not exactly what I was looking for...
Both have been backups? Thomas Jones was a starter, then a backup, then a starter, then a backup, then a starter, and now a backup.
:whoosh: Isn't it obvious? Neither Jones nor Turner cracked RB40 until they had switched teams. And at this point, it would appear that Bernard Scott will need to experience a similar change in environment to duplicate their success.

He signed a 4 year contract in 2009 so he's not going anywhere unless he gets cut.

Precisely. I guess I'm a bit confused. You and I are clearly on the same page in regards to Bernard Scott.

My original reply was directed at Unwrittenlaw who had proposed that it wasn't "far-fetched" for Scott to emerge as a starter @27-28 because Michael Turner and Thomas Jones had perviously accomplished the feat.
