So, I'm in this league with a bunch of college buddies and their friends/family. It has somewhat awkward scoring and rules. It is a fun league and I know everyone in it. However, there are some things that I always have a hard time dealing with.
First, it is a non-starter league. Sometimes this is good and sometimes this is bad. For FBG's it's normally bad because we know our stuff. It allows other owners who don't pay as much attention to lolly-gag and just "see what happens" because their weekly roster is determined for them. No biggie though. I have enough confidence in my team to not have to worry about this week in and week out.
I'll get to the title of this thread later. It is my main concern, but I've got some other issues with the league before I get to that. You're lineup each week consists of the top QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, TE, K, and TD. You can have up to 4 WR's on your team, BUT you can only have up to 3 RBs. I absolutely hate this rule. Why shouldn't you have the same # of backups for both positions where you start the same # of guys? It also heavily interferes with bye weeks during the draft. I would normally not really have a problem drafting my top 2 RBs with the same bye week, who cares right? The rest of the season you'll be full strength at RB. With this format, you can't possibly do that. That would mean you only have 1 eligible RB for that week. And it's not as if you could drop one of them to pick up a waiver fill-in RB, they're your top 2 RBs!!!
Anyways....moving on to why I posted this in the first place. The league scores 3 pts per 5 receptions. However, scoring does not start until you have 5 receptions, and does not involve fractions. The only way to get more than 3 pts for receptions is getting 10 receptions for 6 pts, or 15 receptions for 9 pts. This doesn't concern me so much with WRs and TEs as the rankings pretty much stay the same.
Not so with Rbs though...So my question is: Should I even worry about PPR? 5 rec. per game is a lot for an RB. Granted, some will do it every so often. Think about this though, if you catch 5 balls per game that comes out to 80 receptions per year. Right now there are NO RBs projected to catch that many passes, and I really don't see anyone coming close to that. Maybe LT, Jordan, or Westbrook, but I highly doubt it.
Thoughts?
