Novelty Draft - better than you thought it would be (1 Viewer)

1.ee - Orange Creamsicle/Dreamsicle (Frozen Novelty)

I'm not a huge chocolate fan, especially the somewhat dubious chocolate that's in most frozen novelties. I've always prefered creamsicles. I vaguely remember there being other flavors in my childhood but it seems like only the orange ones survived. That's definitely survival of the fittest because orange are the best.

They're more about more orange the color than orange the fruit. Orange creamsicle flavor lacks the tartness of citrus but it combines for a sweet, fragrant and creamy perfetoin after the somewhat dubious ice cream gets injected inside. A lot of frozen novelties are more about the form than the flavor but creamsicles have a distinct flavor all their own.

Did you know the difference between a creamsicle and a dreamsicle is that the latter uses ice milk? Is ice milk even a thing anymore? I thought that term went out with oleomargarine.
Serving size: 6 units.

If the classic ice cream sandwich is novel, I’ll take the toy I loved as a kid and my 3rd son got majorly into for a while, and still enjoys some.
2nd round - Rubik’s cube.
They even had a Cartoon
Nice - I was thinking of the Rubik's Cube, too. You still see them around from time to time. Back then, there were always those heathens that couldn't figure it out and peeled off the labels to prove their prowess.

I actually took mine apart with a screwdriver at one point. It was hard to get back together.
At first I wasn’t sure if it was novel enough but it was original despite many knockoffs since.

NGL - pretty sure I bought or borrowed the solution book out of frustration.

My son used YouTube 🤷
I did it legit at first. 🤓

I do like ice cream sandwiches, always have. I was novel when novel wasn’t cool (although not being cool is part of the lure of novelty).
As a kid I loved them too much, to the point where I couldn't eat them anymore. But a few years later their siren call beckened me back to the rocky shore. Actually it was the sound of an ice cream truck.

I think this might be more of a social phenomena, but either that or the toy category is okay. Great pick either way.

To simplify let's s each have three picks done, heading into Monday. I'd prefer them not all on a single day, but that will be up to you and your higher power.

Round 2

Stretch Armstrong - Novelty Toy

Stretch Armstrong is a large, gel-filled action figure that was first introduced in 1976 by Kenner. In 2016, at the New York Toy Fair, Hasbro announced the return of the Stretch Armstrong toy in its original 1976 design.

Stretch Armstrong is made of latex rubber filled with a proprietary gelled substance similar to corn syrup, which allows it to retain shape for a short time before shrinking to its original shape.

If anyone has a chance to create a drafter list and/or assist in keeping it updated, it would be appreciated. I'm going to have contactors and football distracting me all weekend.

That was definitely a freakish toy.

2.YM - Chipwich - Novelty Treat

Two chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream sandwiched in between. And if you’re lucky and/or bougie, they’ve got mini chocolate chips lining the sides. Pure perfection.

Wannbe ice-cream sandwich.

Perfected ice cream sandwich.

Original ice cream sandwich = Elgin Baylor

Chipwich = Michael Jordan

Plus the Chipwich doesn’t have that chocolate cardboard stuff that sticks to your fingers and roof of your mouth.

Perfected.

That "chocolate cardboard stuff" is literally what makes the OG ice cream sandwich the -er, cream of the crop. So to speak.
Agwee thoo dithagwee - thowwee, I’m thtill thcwaping the thtuff off the woof of my mouff fwom the laft thandwich I ade.

I actually like ice cream sandwiches. My competitiveness and stubbornness just supersedes that enjoyment.

Round 1, frozen novelty
The Slurpee

Not the current version but the original 70's style that was more like a snow cone thrown in a blender with way more flavor
I've never seen that referred to as a novelty, but I'll allow it. It certainly fits the criteria on several levels.

I must admit I really enjoyed a few of these, but I also agree with @Eephus on "the somewhat dubious chocolate that's in most frozen novelties."
I think it would be much better if it had big vanilla wafers for the cookie portion. The pseudo chocolate chips are it achilles heel

Just in case someone ever gets around to cleaning this up, let's make it easy on them with formatting. e.g.
2.oz - Rubik's cube / toy

Plus the Chipwich doesn’t have that chocolate cardboard stuff that sticks to your fingers and roof of your mouth.

I've learned recently that's called a wafer.
I did not learn until my 30s, when I was a chef at the Dallas Athletic Club, that you could buy Hydrox wafers. They were basically oreos without the filling. Ground up, they made perfect Mud Pie crust.

2.k4 - Pet Rock / toy

I had one. It had a leash.

I mean, a guy became a multi-millionaire selling people rocks. Rocks! One of my favorite aspects was that it came in a box with airholes, so that it could breathe until adopted. I also loved the long instruction booklet that talked about how you could train it to follow commands. "Play dead" was my rock's best trick.

Did I mention mine had a leash?
