tom wolfe is like the spirit animal for a variant of hipsterism called the "dandy" or "natty dandy".
i remember seeing him walking on the street in Manhattan once. i passed him going the opposite direction and quickly turned around to follow him. he dressed in almost the exact same outfit you see there. it was fun to see the sidewalk foot traffic open up for him like he was leading a parade. it was awesome.

Still a lot in the Bay Area techie world. Waxed mustaches, oversized beards, small hats, tight jeans that are too short, etc. I saw a guy on my commute that couldn't have been less than 70 all hipstered out. Pretty funny.

seemed to be the trend that i noticed. everyone just looked..... regular.

A few montha ago there were some hopeful articles posted by Vice, declaring that the hipsters were all gone now. Right. Some 22-year-old making 35 grand in Willimaburg has decided that they are all gone.
They will evolve, and change uniforms, they are still hipsters. Hipsters always change their look, becuae they are hipsters (the name gives you a clue). It's everyone else that doesn't change their collective look.

depends if you're buying mismatched shoes, pink socks, shorts with suspenders, a fur vest, argyle ascot, fisherman's cap and a glow necklace there.
those things, while potentially fine individually, and probably available for 40% off retail, should not all be worn in conjunction.
