Now that it has passed, please remember NOT to call it the “Inflation Reduction Act” anymore. Thank you. (1 Viewer)

Is this true? I thought we need less guns on the streets.

it wasn't job descriptions for the 87,000 new agents but yes, it was true the IRS needs people who will do SWAT team work

Instead we got scare tactics that they would be authorized to kill on sight and so on. Its almost as if the right wing media ran with something that wasn't really true to act as if its a big provision of the bill.
No. The job posting literally said ““Carry a firearm and be willing to use deadly force, if necessary”. It was all over the internet and Twitter, with tons of screenshots. It was taken down after Fox reported on it because of the bad optics. But keep saying “right wing media” fabricated it.

Liberals are impossible to talk politics with. The MSM won’t cover a story like this because, well, they’re Liberal hacks. Then when the story appears in conservative sources, small minded people who can’t deal with reality play source cop and discredit what everyone else with a functioning brain knows is true. 😆
And as has been pointed out its not about the full 87,000 but a small portion of that. And I believe they already have some armed like this.

But yes. Its the liberals fault.

The story like this…its a near non story at all. Thats the point.
No, it is a story because it is being sold to us as going after a certain tax bracket . We know that isn’t going to be the case. Does it affect me? No. It’s the constant bait and switch on these issues that should upset everyone.
Can you unpack this? What is the bait and switch?

This is false. Stop spreading misinformation.

The main targets will by necessity be the middle- and upper-middle class because that’s where the money is. The Joint Committee on Taxation, Congress’s official tax scorekeeper, says that from 78% to 90% of the money raised from under-reported income would likely come from those making less than $200,000 a year. Only 4% to 9% would come from those making more than $500,000. -Source WSJ
Assuming this data is accurate, it confirms that, on a per capita basis, a much higher percentage of under-reported income comes from the wealthy.
It absolutely does not confirm anything. There is not enough information for any per capita conclusion.

There could be 100,000 people in the >$500K bracket, and only one person under-reporting to make up the entire $ amount. 1/100,000 would be criminals on a per capita basis.

Similarly, there could be 100 million people in the <$200K bracket, yet 50 million of them are under-reporting. 1/2 would be criminals on a per capita basis.
You read my post incorrectly. I didn't say anything about number of people underreporting. More of the total income that is underreported comes from the wealthy, on a per capita basis, by a significant order of magnitude.
Ok. I understand now. That's fair, but the total income reported per capita is also bigger for the wealthy. So are they really "bigger" cheaters when it comes to the % of their income that they are under-reporting? I honestly don't know.

IMO to make that assertion you'd want to divide under-reported income by total income for the wealthy. Show what % of their total income, on a per capita basis, each group is under-reporting.

For example, if it could be shown that the rich are under-reporting 3% of their per capita income, and the middle, etc. under-reporting only 1%, then of course I would agree 100% with what you're saying.

If the only thing you're annoyed about is Democrats (elected ones) don't say what they mean--I agree with you. They misnamed this. They want to defund the police, but defund the police doesn't mean what you silly Americans think it means. Modern Democrats (elected ones) like word games. It's a quirk of theirs that I don't quite like.

However, the Biden W column is suddenly...pretty good.

Three HUGE issues: Prescription drug prices, Infrastructure, and Climate change.

Biden now has huge wins on all 3 of these. Trump talked a lot about prescription drugs, did nothing. Trump tried to do something about infrastructure unsuccessfully.

We can certainly criticize Biden for many things. But he's certainly getting things done.

Selling the name of it, when it has little to do with thr title. It’s their bill, they can name it anything they want. We’ll see

The corporations and rich people are the ones with the money, that's who they're going after. To think they're going to allocate their resources otherwise is not thinking logically.

Sounds like you're paying your fair share of taxes and have nothing to worry about. Do you want other people to get away with cheating or possibly inadvertently not paying their share?

Not debunked at all. Inconclusive, at best. The CBO didn't say which income groups the additional $204 billion would be coming from. It can't be assumed it is all coming from >$400K just because Yellen says that's all she is targeting.

When the CBO looked at the full menu of changes at the IRS — enforcement plus the rest — it predicted that the agency would collect an additional $204 billion over the course of the decade.

The CBO said the additional revenues would come from a combination of enforcement and better compliance.

The CBO report said nothing about what income groups the new collections would come from.

It's clear as day the whole thing is purely political by the Blue Team...going after the rich with disproportionate IRS enforcement and inefficient use of resources...all because Congress can't do their job and close the loopholes through legislation where the real money is.

going after the rich with disproportionate IRS enforcement and inefficient use of resources.
What is inefficient here? I've not seen data showing that going after high income tax cheats yields less revenue than going after middle class tax cheats on a per hour worked basis. It could be true, it could not be true.

Have you seen data showing you the other way?

It may seem counter intuitive that going after people that make a couple hundred thousand a year will fetch better results. But it could also be that the super rich have a team of lawyers and it may take years.

So if somebody is looking for fast, measurable results it could be easier to just grab some panfish and head home rather than trying to bag the bigger fish.

I don't think the IRS publishes data like this, but maybe they do. Just spitballin here.

I would assume you'd could see a return to 2010 audit numbers, probably double them for each income group.
