They didn't have the camera angle to establish that the ball hit the ground. But Sean Payton thought they did, so he called a quick-snap sneak on first doan before Coughlin could challenge.

From rewinding on DVR, looked like he had a red stain on his right sock. His right ankle was wobbling while he was laying on the ground. Based on the air cast applied & time taken to get him off the field, I'm guessing open/compound right ankle fracture. Hate it for the guy.
